We’re not sure how this happened but Twilight was knocked off the top spot this weekend, in the USA, by an animated 3D film.
The film, Despicable Me, took $60.1m (£40.2m) whereas Twilight took just $33.4m (£22.3m). This comes as quite a surprise considering all the hype surrounding the latest Twilight, but it seems the Twihards just weren’t powerful enough.
Despicable Me is the story of a villain, voiced by comedy actor Steve Carell, who plans to steal the moon. However when he meets three little orphaned girls, he realises he might be destined for things other than being evil.
The film also stars Jason Segel, Russell Brand and Julie Andrews.
It is the second biggest opening for a non-Pixar original work of animation, coming in just behind Kung Fu Panda.
The film from Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment was released on July 9 in the USA.
Despicable Me is due to be released in the UK in October.
