Continuing his move away from comedy, Jonah Hill will star alongside James Franco in True Story.
True Story is far removed from the likes of Superbad and Get Him to the Greek, two of the films that originally made Jonah Hill famous. However, recently Mr. Hill has made a move into a more serious work. What changed things? Without a doubt, it was his appearance alongside Brad Pitt in Moneyball and being nominated for an Oscar for the role. This format seemed to work, so he’s going to run with it. Hill will once again be reuniting with Pitt as the latter will be producing True Story with his company, Plan B.
Hill’s character, Finkel, is a writer at the New York Times Magazine who’s down-in-the-dumps after he is fired for falsifying parts of an article. What does he need to save his career? Well, an accused murderer who has been living under Finkel’s name and has just been captured in Mexico after spending years on the FBI Ten Most Wanted List – of course. Thankfully for Hill’s character, the man soon pops into view, played by James Franco. The fugitive, whose real name is Christian Longo, insists on speaking to Finkel, who he says is the only person he will talk to about proving that he didn’t murder his family.
It sounds like there will be lots of twists and turns in this film, and it will be interesting to see if Jonah Hill will be able to pull off another serious character. Rupert Goold is on board to direct and with the talented combination of Oscar nominees (Pitt, Franco, Hill), hopefully this film will be a real corker.
