Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are set to reunite in TWO upcoming indie thrillers.
I recently sat in a hotel room attempting to watch a French-dubbed version of the Cage-Travolta classic, Face/Off, and realising that, even when you don’t understand a word of what’s going on, it really is a very good film.
It seems a couple of indie directors have also recently remembered the magic of this on-screen pairing. Cage and Travolta have reportedly been lined up to star opposite each other in, not one, but two upcoming films.
The first film which may see this duo reunite is Shrapnel – which is based on a script by Snow White and the Huntsmen‘s Evan Daugherty, and made the Hollywood Black List back in 2008. The plot sees a Bosnian soldier seek revenge on an American who once wounded him, by embroiling him in a deadly war game, in the guise of a hunting trip. Producers are apparently keen to start shooting for the film this June, so we should be able to hear confirmation of their casting in the not too distance future.
The second project which the pair are rumoured to be considering is Sea Trial. This thriller is based on a novel by the father of writer and director Raymond De Felitta, who has also penned the film adaptation. The Dark Knight‘s Chuck Roven is also on to produce, although the project is still awaiting finances, so it’s likely to be a while before it makes it to our screens.
Will these films cement Cage and Travolta’s place as Hollywood’s new favourite double act? Or will be a case of too much of a good thing? We can’t wait to find out!
