If you’re a big fan of explosions, aliens, monsters and CGI tidbits in the wonderful world of cinema, 15 films are now aiming to grab the final spots for the VFX Oscar.

Recently, we’ve had a bit of a rush in terms of visual effects. The advent of 3D films has seen all-CGI films like Avatar and Toy Story 3 rocket into the stratosphere, and visual effects are becoming more important, in some cases (you know who you are), than the quality of the script or the acting work.

Hopefully for the following 15, that’s not the case. Listed alphabetically:

Alice in Wonderland
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Clash of the Titans
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Hereafter
Inception
Iron Man 2
The Last Airbender
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Shutter Island
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Tron: Legacy
Unstoppable

Goodness, that’s a lot of high-quality CGI! There’s a few that look like they’ll be weeded out, but what do you reckon? Anyone going out before it’s even been announced? From early reviews it seems at least one Tron-shaped film is looking at a “great visual effects, shame about everything else” reception overall, but that won’t cost it a VFX Oscar, not by a long shot.

So, thoughts? Votes?
