It may not be due out until next year, but Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are already stirring up excitement for The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn by releasing the first stills from the film.
The 3D adaptation of the iconic Belgian comic book series originally written by Georges “Hergé” Remi is the first Spielberg film to be shot using digital cinematography, and is based on a blend of three Tintin stories: The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure.
Jamie Bell stars as Tintin, and Andy Serkis will surely be exclaiming “ten thousand thundering typhoons!” as the infamous Captain Haddock. Both their characters can be seen in these newly released stills, and the film will see them alongside a few more famous faces (well, voices).
Serkis’ Burke and Hare co-star, Simon Pegg, will be playing one half of the detective duo Thompson and Thompson, with the other half being Nick Frost, naturally. Mackenzie Crook and Daniel Mays play Ernie and Allan, a pair of smugglers, whilst Daniel Craig plays the pirate Red Rackham.
Peter Jackson has described the film’s look as “photorealeastic”, and from the looks of the images published in Empire Magazine, that certainly seems to be the case. The film isn’t due to reach UK cinemas until December 2011, but we’re looking forward to it already!
