It has been announced that Tom Hiddleston is the latest actor to join the cast of upcoming film noir-esque flick, Black Wings Has My Angel.
Hiddleston, who was most recently seen on screen in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, is now set to join True Blood‘s Anna Paquin, as well as critically acclaimed Hobbit, Elijah Wood in this adaptation of a novel by Elliott Chaze. All three confirmed cast members might well be considered unlikely choices for this gritty thriller, which will also be the Hollywood début for Mexican director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa.
The film follows the story of anti-hero Tim Sunblade, who makes his way across America in an attempt to pull off a car robbery with the help of a gun-toting ex-hooker in what sounds rather like a 1950s infused version of Tarantino’s True Romance. Black Wings… has been scripted by the director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa along with Christopher Peditto and the film-noir expert Barry Gifford – a writer who is no stranger to penning tales of troubled lovers on the road, having written the Sailor and Lula series which inspired David Lynch’s Wild at Heart.
Wood was originally attached to the role of Black Wings‘ Sunblade back in 2009, and is reportedly still on board, despite news that Hiddleston has now landed the part. Paquin (who is more than familiar with production delays having taking on the title role in Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret last year), is expected to play the call-girl described in the book’s tag line as having “the face of a Madonna and a heart made of dollar bills.”
Shooting for Black Wings Has My Angel kicks off in September this year – we’ll keep you posted!
