For the first time ever, the whirlwind adventures of our favourite globe-trotting archaeologist, Indiana Jones, are set to screen at IMAX cinemas across the UK and tickets are released today.
Select cinemas across the UK will be showing Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark in stunning high definition combined with thundering surround sound.
The special one week UK screening is in conjunction with the Blu-Ray release of Indiana Jones: The Complete Collection. The four disc pack – released on October 8 – includes Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade and the 2008 comeback, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
US cinema-goers will be spoilt with the same treat; their week-long Indy screening starts September 7th.
Oscar-winning film maker, Steven Spielberg, told The New York Times how the transformation into HD works. He said that “the first tier is where you take the DI [digital intermediate] and you enhance the resolution to IMAX resolution. The second tier is that the sound is significantly different’.
He went on to explain that the audio stems were put through 12,000 watts of digital surround sound and it’s a totally uncompressed experience.
Spielberg warned film-goers that ‘you’ll feel the sound in your chest, like when the boulder is rolling, chasing Indy through the cave. You really feel the boulder in your stomach, the way you do when a marching band passes by and you’re standing right next to it’.
You can see the Raiders Of The Lost Ark at the following venues:
Odeon Gateshead Metro Centre
Odeon Liverpool One
Odeon Swiss Cottage
