Oh yes. You like trailers? How about trailers for what could be three of the biggest films of 2012? That’s right, I’m talking about The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Prometheus. Feel tingly yet?
First up, because I think we should start with something dark (they’re all dark, but this has that word in the title, so there you go), is The Dark Knight Rises. This is going to be good, but whether it’ll top the sublime insanity and thrills of The Dark Knight is yet to be seen. Personally, I think it’s got the worst sequel title ever short of The Dark Knight 2, but here it goes anyway.
Next, we have The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which certainly seems more intimate and… weirder than Lord of the Rings (mainly because, thanks to Gimli, we were yet to see a Jackson-era young Dwarf before now). But it’ll also be funnier, and epic in a slightly less emotionally heavy way. I can’t wait. Here’s the moving pictures bit.
Last, but certainly not least, is Prometheus, the Alien prequel directed by Ridley Scott, and it looks like the fans are certainly getting what they wanted. Facehuggers, an explanation of that huge ship from Alien, and various other tidbits mixed in with classic horror. Also worth noting the interestingly familiar way the title appears as the trailer rolls onwards. Ah! The trailer! Here you go, xenomorph-huggers.
So that’s it for this week’s “did you see that? You totally need to see that” batch of trailers. I don’t really think I’ll ever get to do a post about trailers that has this much cool stuff in it again. Enjoy the videos – I’ll be busy wondering which of the Prometheus cast is the secret robot.
