We’re used to seeing Emma Watson with a wand in her hand, but soon we could see the actress with a broom instead, since she’s been courted to play Cinderella in Kenneth Branagh’s new fairytale project.
The Harry Potter starlet, who’s known for her role as fuzzy-haired Hermione, will be filling the glass slipper to portray Cinders in Disney’s live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale. It has also been rumoured that Cate Blanchett will play the wicked stepmother. A draft of the script has been penned by Aline Brosh McKenna and Twilight:New Moon’s Chris Weitz.
This unique take on Cinderella is part of Disney’s live-action fairytale collection which includes Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland as well as the upcoming Oz: The Great And Powerful. Die-hard Disney fans have also got Maleficent, a live-action version of Sleeping Beauty, to look forward to next year. Produced by Robert Stromberg, the tale is told from the perspective of the princess’ evil nemesis, Maleficent as played by Angelina Jolie.
The unnamed Cinderella-inspired movie is currently in pre-production and is hoped to be released in 2014.
