Friday 1st June sees the UK release of Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo – an intriguing documentary film which aims to examine Japan’s age-old fascination with the world of insects.

This film opens in modern-day Tokyo, where $90,000 was recently paid for a single beetle. Working backwards, writer and director Jessica Oreck aims to unravel the history behind Japan’s obsession with insects, taking a look at the philosophies of one of Japan’s best-selling authors and anatomists, Dr. Takeshi Yoro, as well as examples of the country’s ancient poetry and art.
