Buddhism hits the Big Screen

Buddhism isn’t something that you’d automatically associate with the silver screen (if Tom Cruise had his way the industry’s official religion would be Scientology), but the form of spirituality has always had a place in cinema, so it makes sense that the UK’s capital is celebrating its presence with a somewhat virtuous knees-up.

Hitting London’s Barbican Centre from 7 to 17 May, The International Buddhist Film Festival aims to offer a fresh perspective on world cinema with a Buddhist touch, honouring ideas and inspiration represented in all film, from Eastern documentaries to Hollywood blockbusters. More than 40 films from 18 countries (including 27 UK premieres) will be screened, while events will include seminars and talks with ‘big name’ guest speakers (Richard Gere anyone?).
For the full line-up, visit www.barbican.org.uk or call 020 7638 8891.
