There is a lot of rumour and buzz surrounding Katy Perry. Apparently she is to star in a 3D concert film in the future. She is also supposed to be the subject-matter of a new movie about her rise to fame…

There is no denying Katy Perry is a fascinating subject, so it is no surprise the film industry might want to cash in on her success. But which project is it to be?

Paramount Pictures are allegedly in talks with Katy’s people to make a 3D film of her concert. If it goes forward, she will be following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and the television show Glee, all of which released concert movies in the last few years.

However she is also tipped to have a film made about her life! The film would follow her transition from Katheryn Hudson, the daughter of pastors Keith and Mary Hudson, to Katy Perry the chart topping sex symbol. An intriguing story. Producer Brian Grazer, the man behind Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13, is thought to be linked to the title.

Both projects are currently in the hear-say stage at the moment though. If the biopic of her life does happen, everyone will be keen to see if she insists upon airbrushing her 14 month marriage to Russell Brand out of it. After all, their high profile relationship is arguably a massive factor in her current level of fame, no matter how sensitive the topic.

The concert movie will no doubt be first in line, despite not having any tour dates booked yet. Her concerts are famed for their colourful spectacle so they would lend themselves to the cinema experience. However no director is on board as of yet.

Would you watch Katy Perry: The Concert Movie? How about a Katy biopic?

The sequel to the American Independent horror film, Insidious, is set to begin shooting this summer.

The supernatural scarer – which would even spook the Ghostbusters – was so popular last year, that film makers James Wan and Leigh Wannell, already have plans for Insidious 2.

After rumours that the pair would only make a follow up film if they had an especially good idea, the producers – known for the Saw franchise – must have had a spark of inspiration because they hope to begin filming this summer.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film could be released as soon as 2013 and may be distributed by FilmDistrict in the US, Alliance in Canada, Momentum Pictures in the UK and Sony everywhere else.

The spine tingling horror was one of last year’s most profitable films; it also received three Scream Award nominations including Best Horror Actor and Best Horror Actress.

Rose Bryne (Troy, Bridesmaids) and Patrick Wilson (The A-Team ) may even be on board for the follow up film. The Bloody Disgusting reported a statement from Whannel saying, ‘Insidious was the most fun project I’ve ever worked on. From start to finish it was an absolute joy… James and I both feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film’.

The first film saw a happy family forced to move home after they believe their house was haunted. However, they do not realise that Dalton, their young son, is a spirit portal for demons and ghosts. At the end on the first film, there were a lot of loose ends, so we are hoping these mysteries will be revealed in the sequel.

The Only Way Is Essex star, Mark Wright, has made no secret of his acting ambitions, and now it seems that he could be set to appear in a film alongside Kelly Brook, Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan. So Mark will not just be looking reem and smelling reem, but acting reem.

The actor, who attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School for ten years, got his big break by appearing in the ‘structured reality’ TV show, The Only Way is Essex. However, it seems that since leaving the show, Wright is keen to swap Brentwood for Hollywood, to leave Loughton for L.A. – we could go on. Basically, he’s looking to land himself a film role.

Since announcing his departure from the programme, Wright used his ‘celebrity’ stature to appear on the ITV show, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, before nabbing a presenting role on ITV’s Take Me Out spinoff, Take Me Out: The Gossip. In doing so, it seems that Wright may have managed to dispel concerns over whether or not those in possession of an Estuary accent are also able to present TV – despite evidence to the contrary from the likes of Stacey Solomon and Olly Murs – by managing to do a pretty good job of it. So much so, that a film role might just be on the cards after all.

Wright is currently said to be in talks with directors about appearing in a gangster film – and it’s only Kelly Brook who’s reportedly lined up to play the leading lady! The Brit-flick in question is also rumoured to star fellow Essex-boy Danny Dyer (Malice in Wonderland, Dead Man Running), and Tamer Hassan (who co-starred with Dyer in The Business). However, details of the film and cast are yet to be confirmed.

In December last year, Wright told Now magazine, “I definitely want to be the next James Bond! I’d like a career like a more serious version of Russell Brand, where you can act and present. I know I can do it.” Bond might be a bit ambitious (especially with Daniel Craig signed on for five more films), and Wright might want to think twice about following in Mr. Brand’s footsteps – apart from anything else, his last film, the remake of Arthur, was a box office flop.

Do you think Mark Wright could make it as a film star? What are you saying?

Harry Potter director David Yates is set to take on an adaptation of Emma Forrest’s book Your Voice in My Head, and if rumours are true he wants to hire Emma Watson to star in it.

David Yates has been busy for the past few years, making the last four Harry Potter movies a roaring success, but it would seem he is still attached to the stars of the series.

Slated to be released some time in 2013, Your Voice In My Head is based on the memoir of journalist Emma Forrest. If Yates gets his way, Watson will play the central character Emma, who attempts suicide before she is saved by an optimistic and wise psychiatrist. Except he harbours troubles of his own.

The memoir has been adapted for the screen by Forrest herself.

If she signs, it will be Miss Watson’s third project since her ten year stint as Hermione Granger in the Potter films ended. Her first post Potter project was My Week With Marilyn, followed by this year’s flick The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

As of yet no one else is on board, although the studio behind the new film, Warner Brothers are hoping a big name star like Tom Hanks will be interested in the role of the psychiatrist.

The author of The Reader is attempting to sue the studios who turned it into the Oscar-winning Hollywood film over claims he has not received a penny from them.

Bernhard Schlink’s 1995 novel was adapted into the 2008 film starring Kate Winslet, who won an Oscar for Best Actress. However, three years on, and the German writer claims to have not received any payments from the Weinstein Company.
This week, Schlink filed a suit at the Los Angeles superior court stating he was in violation of his legal rights. The law suit alleges, ‘The statement is false in that it greatly understates the receipts, overstates the costs and expenses, and does not correctly follow the terms of their deal with Miramax’. However, the Weinstein Company were unavailable for comment at the time.

According to the Hollywood reporter, Bernhard Schlink believes he is owed around $1m. He claims to have signed a contract with the Weinstein Company – co-owned by brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein – back in 1998. The contract is thought to have stated that Schink is entitled to between 2.5% and 5% of the movie’s gross receipts.

The book was translated into English and soon became The New York Times’ best selling German book, while the Hollywood film gained critical acclaim and topped the $100m mark at the global box office.

The Reader - German title Der Vorleser – also starred Ralph Fiennes and David Kross. The book explored the difficulties which the postwar generation had to deal with after the Holocaust. Winslet plays a middle aged woman in the 1950s who has an affair with a 15-year-old boy and later faces prison.
The Weinstein Company have had their fair share of law suits over the years. They were sued for $50m after claims the studio supposedly sabotaged the delayed animated comedy, Escape from Planet Earth. The studio were accused of ‘contempt for contractual obligations’. In addition. a further $2.7m in profits were supposedly not received by documentary film-maker Michael Moore for Fahrenheit 911. Moore claimed he was owed but never received.

However, the company’s lawyer, stated last year ‘Mr Moore has received a huge amount of money from this film and we believe he is overreaching. He should be ashamed of himself.’

We will keep you posted on the latest updates.

So, yeah. Taylor Lautner was due to play Stretch Armstrong. No, you heard right. The stretchy toy bloke we all had as kids. But he’s left, and the film’s switched studios. Good move? Yep.

What I don’t get about Taylor Lautner is that he’s actually got a reasonable amount of potential, but keeps finding himself in the world’s stupidest roles on a semi-regular basis. Generic action film Abduction was utterly panned by critics, so of course, the logical next move would be to throw his lot in with a production that’s a little better-suited to furthering his career and helping him move away from his Twilight-era “Jacob Black” image.

So he went with STRETCH ARMSTRONG.

The film is literally about the titular hero, possibly playing out similarly to a story based around Mr. Fantastic (aka Reed Richards) of Fantastic Four. Initially, Universal were heading up the project, but Relativity Media have since taken over, as Universal has dumped the project. I think we can all agree it’s for the best, and I’m not sure how well Relativity Media think this film is going to go, although I have nothing against seeing Stretch Armstrong toys on sale once more. More on this, well, if it happens.

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are proving to be fast friends. They have both signed to star in their second movie together, Serena.

Actors do love repeat collaborations, don’t they? Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Not normally in as quicker succession as this though.

Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class) and Bradley Cooper’s (The A-Team) previous collaboration on David O Russell’s The Silver Lining Playbook, is barely in post-production and won’t be released until November this year, but already the two have signed for another film together.

Serena, which is based on the 2008 novel by Ron Rash, will see the pair as two over-ambitious newly-weds George and Serena Pemberton, who move to North Carolina in 1929 to build a timber empire. However, when Serena discovers she can’t have kids, she develops an unhealthy determination to kill George’s illegitimate son.

So, she’s ambitious and vicious? Gripping stuff.

The film was initially set to be directed by Darren Aronofsky back in 2010, with Angelina Jolie considering the role of Serena. Obviously those plans fell through and the project is now to be directed by Danish born, Susanne Bier.

Jennifer and Bradley’s previous collaboration, The Silver Linings Playbook is about a former teacher, who moves back in with his mother and attempts to reconcile with his ex-wife, having spent four years in a mental institution.

Bradley who was last seen in comedy sequel The Hangover Part II, will next be in Brian Klugman’s The Words opposite Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana.

Lawrence in the meantime has a small supporting role in indie Like Crazy which is currently playing in cinemas across the UK, before the release of the eagerly anticipated The Hunger Games in March.

The canine star of Hugo, Blackie is a giant Doberman who plays a crucial and well executed part in the Oscar-nominated film as Sacha Baron Cohen’s attack dog. However the poor animal was left out of the nominations for a Golden Collar Award, much to the disappointment of his director. The Golden Collar Awards are given to performing dogs and the first annual awards ceremony will be held on 13 February at the Hotel Palomar, Los Angeles.

In a letter to the LA Times, Scorsese lamented Blackie’s snub in the ‘Best Dog in a Theatrical Film’ category, urging readers to contact the organisers of the awards in support of his canine friend.

“How could she not be nominated?” Scorsese wrote. He made reference to the Jack Russell Uggie, who has received two nominations for his roles in both Water For Elephants and The Artist.

“Uggie plays a nice little mascot who does tricks and saves his master’s life in one of the films, while Blackie gives an uncompromising performance as a ferocious guard dog who terrorises children,” Scorsese went on.

Challenging roles like this should get recognition he said, “I’m proud of Blackie, who laid it on the line and dared to risk the sympathy of her audience.”

In response to his rather eloquent argument, the event’s organisers Dog Daily News have said that: “Rather than engage in a war of words over the merits” of the two dogs, they will request the panel of 14 judges add Blackie as the sixth nomination … if she receives 500 or more write-in nominations via its Facebook page.

Scorsese certainly has the public under his thumb. More than 400 supporters have already submitted their nominations in the 24 hours since his letter was published, so we have no doubt the required number will be reached.

Other dogs in the running include: Denver from the comedy drama 50/50, Hummer from Young Adult and Cosmo from Beginners.

So, is this unfair or was Blackie snubbed? Let us know!

A remake of the 90s thriller, The Crow, is back on track for a remake after a resolved dispute between the Weinstein Company and Relativity Media.

The two companies have put their differences aside and have closed a deal with Spanish film maker, Francisco Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) to remake the film. Jesse Wigutow (Ugly Naked People, It Runs in the Family) will be writing the screenplay.

The gritty reboot of the psychological thriller will be produced by Edward R. Pressman (Bad Lieutenant, American Psycho) and Jeff Most (The Specialist) with Tucker Tooley – who helped direct Limitless – as executive producer.

The American classic – originally starring Brandon Lee who tragically died on set – was set to be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and star The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper, but since the legal dispute over the film rights, both men have dropped out.

Cooper, who is also the star of the action-thriller Limitless , told Empire: ‘There weren’t even that many ups and downs. We were talking about doing it because of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, I’m such a massive fan, and then the timing didn’t work out. He just dropped out of it also so I don’t know what they’re going to do.’

The horror thriller features the iconic character Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow in order to avenge his and his wife’s murder, so that his soul can rest. The original film – which is based on the comic book series by James O’Barr – had to be rewritten after Brandon Lee received an accidental gunshot on set. He later died in hospital.

There is no word on the casting or the release date yet but we will keep you posted with the latest news!

A computer-animated adaptation of the comic series The Goon has apparently run out of funding, says Paul Giamatti, the voice of Frankie.

The Goon‘s unique in that it features a mob goon (the rather large, eponymous gentleman) and his short friend Frankie (predictably the angrier of the two) hanging out in a bar and beating up the undead. No, really – beating up the undead.

A mix of the mafia and urban fantasy genres, the initial animation tests were impressive, and people have been following the film for some time. Of course, this may also be because the director was none other than David Fincher, responsible for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network.

It’s a shame, because it’s a CGI animation that’s definitely not for kids, and we could do with a change like this. It seems totally mental, and I’m 100% behind it hitting cinemas. Come on, guys, David Fincher and Paul Giamatti? All I had to do was say those two names and show the trailer to my editor to baffle him re: why it’s not fully funded. More on this in the future, I hope.
