Stretch Armstrong film in the making

We’ve got Toy Story 3 hitting the screens next year, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming in a few weeks and G.I. Joe this summer… As if anymore proof was needed that we really are all over-grown kids with an insatiable appetite for play-things, Universal have now announced a live-action movie adaptation based around elasticised doll Stretch Armstrong.Introduced in the 1970s (no, I don’t remember him either), Stretch Armstrong is a man who can elongate his limbs to incredible length – although the plot is the one thing that’s really going to need stretching if the studio thinks this is premise enough for a film… The guy tasked with this is Steve Oedekerk, who has previously penned scripts for Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty, Patch Adams, The Nutty Professor and Kung Pow: Enter The Fist. Meanwhile, Brian Grazer will be producing.

“It’s a story about a guy stretching, if you will, the limits of what is possible to become all that he can be,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. Riiiight…. The release date is pencilled for 15 April 2011, so they have a while longer to, er, bounce around some ideas.
