Sam Mendes’ Skyfall will be the first James Bond film to be made in IMAX format, allowing the audience to really feel like part of the film as they experience the crystal clear images and powerful digital audio the cinema offers.

The much anticipated film will be a ‘cool, must-see event’ according to Sony.

Skyfall – which is due for an October release – marks the 50th Anniversary of the long-running Bond franchise.

The IMAX president, Greg Foster thinks that James Bond‘s ‘iconic characters and electrifying action will only be amplified in the IMAX format.’

Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead) has released a 90-second video blog, which shows special behind-the-scenes clips from the upcoming film.

The plot is being kept tightly under wraps; all we know is that M’s past comes back to haunt her after which Bond’s loyalty to her is severely tested. MI6 then comes under attack and Bond’s mission is to track down and destroy the threat, disregarding the personal cost.

If you can’t wait until Skyfall is released on October 26th, you can have a sneak peak at the making of the film, which stars Daniel Craig (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Layer Cake) and veteran actress Judi Dench (Pride And Prejudice, My Week with Marilyn) in the video blog below.

Bean, who fans of Game of Thrones will recognise as Eddard Stark, will be sticking to the strong, manly character. This story however will be set not in the mythical land of Westeros, but instead in the very modern and very real, London. He will be playing Ewan, a Secret Service Agent, working undercover to find out who a small-time arms dealer is selling Semtex (a plastic explosive) to.

However, his mission gets a lot tougher when masked gunmen steal the Semtex. When a suicide bomber bombs a busy restaurant, it becomes apparent that there is something bigger going on and that the city is in danger from a terrorist cell. In true secret agent/thriller style, his operators, played by Charlotte Rampling (Melancholia) and James Fox (W.E.). tell him to go off-grid and alone to seek out the mastermind behind the attack, played by Abhin Galeya (Wimbledon). Cleanskin also stars Tom Burke (Great Expectations), Tuppence Middleton (Chatroom) Michelle Ryan (4,3,2,1). It looks like a tense and thrilling ride through a world that many people don’t like to think about.

How will Sean Bean’s character find a terrorist with no previous convictions (i.e. a ‘cleanskin’)? Can he save the city? Will he have the same accent as he did in Game of Thrones? The answer to the latter is ‘yes’ and as for the rest, you will have to wait until the film is released on 9th March to find out. Until then have a look at the trailer:

John Carpenter has had a great career so far, and now has The Ward to add to his staggering portfolio – a film in which a young woman, Kristen, is wrongly imprisoned by psychiatric staff in a mental hospital. Sounds fairly disturbing, especially when you consider the other four in-patients are also young women.

When TFR saw the first trailer many moons ago, the excitement in the office was palpable. How many times are you going to get the opportunity to see oddball animation like this? Toy Story was ground breaking, and Shrek (before the endless sequels) was flawless in its execution, but bar Tim Burton’s 9, no one’s really taken animation in a black comedy direction.

If we had to describe this film, we’d use the phrase “Depp: Wild West Chameleon”. Personally, the idea sells itself, and the latest trailer is very amusing too. So without further ado, I give you Depp’s latest odd character: Rango.

The Kid, starring Rupert Friend (Kiera Knightly‘s boyfriend and star of The Young Victoria) is based on the memoir by Kevin Lewis.

Directed by Nick Moran, known for his role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, it documents Kevin’s life as he suffered at the hands of an abusive mother.

The casting of his mother, Gloria, played by Natascha McElhone has raised a few eyebrows, as some have questioned the believability of McElhone playing a horrible woman with fake teeth considering she is widely thought of as an extremely beautiful woman.

We follow Kevin as he is taken into care, bullied, becomes part of the criminal underworld and then manages to come out on top as an international bestseller.

Ioan Gruffudd, David O’Hara and James Fox also star in the film that is released in UK cinemas today.

Judging by the trailer this looks like a bit of a tearjerker and there are some violent scenes that may make you squirm. Sound like your cup of tea?

We’ve just seen the trailer, and we’ll be honest – it’s hard not to feel slightly scared. Stephen Hawking’s point that aliens may in fact try to colonise Earth in much the same way America was itself colonised is a terrifying thought, and miles away from the musical and cute climax of Encounters of the Third Kind.

This time, they’re not friendly, and certainly don’t look like they’re into communicating with the human race using a keyboard. Abduction, however, is definitely on the menu, and although brief, we can see that hundreds of people are being sucked up into one ship. Given that we can see many ships, the numbers are staggering.

This is the element of science fiction that tends to be the most, and the least popular. Utter hopelessness is something horror thrives on, and dark science fiction films like this, Cube and Cloverfield help to reinforce that. Watching the bad guys win on a huge scale, if only at first, makes for some edge of the seat watching.

The trailer’s only kicking around on Apple at the moment, but feel free to take a peek. A word of advice – after watching, really, really, don’t look up…

The actress, who is known to be rather unlucky in love, plays a 40-year-old woman, Kassie, who turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Her best friend Wally (Jason Bateman) is not too happy about it, particularly because she has chosen a handsome sperm donor Roland (Patrick Wilson) over him.

At an ‘insemination party’, Wally gets drunk and accidently spills Roland’s sperm, which leaves him with one choice – to fill it up himself.

Seven years later when Kassie is reunited with Wally, it is clear how similar her child is to Wally but if you want to know if they pair get together you’ll have to watch the movie. It all sounds quite similar to her previous rom coms, doesn’t it? But it is the artificial insemination that gives it a twist.

Jennifer has been doing the rounds recently talking about the movie and her own perception on love and babies.

“Women are realising it more and more – knowing that they don’t have to settle with a man just to have that child,” Aniston said.

“Times have changed and what is amazing is that we do have so many options these days, as opposed to our parents’ days when you can’t have children because you have waited too long.”

Is this her way of telling us that she may do the same as her character in the film? Either way what do you think, will you be watching The Switch?

The town in question is Affleck’s home ground of Boston, where ‘there are over 300 bank robberies…every year’.

Doug MacRay (Affleck) is a bank robber who bumps into one of his traumatised victims, Claire (Rebecca Hall), shortly after a job.

A relationship develops between the two and this starts to endanger MacRay, whose gang is being investigated by an FBI team led by agent Adam Frawley (Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame).

The film is directed by Affleck, who (alongside Peter Craig) also wrote the screenplay, an adaptation of The Prince of Thieves, a book by Chuck Hogan.

Blake Lively also stars as the sister of one of the robbers and Pete Postlethwaite plays a fine baddie.

Overall Affleck’s career has been an uneven one, moving from Oscar winning highs on Good Will Hunting to cinematic lows like Gigli and then climbing once more to acclaim with Gone Baby Gone and Hollywoodland.

Affleck’s directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, received positive reviews. The film was also set in the more ‘disadvantaged’ parts of Boston and featured its director as a minor character, but this time he’s taking a starring role.

Can Affleck repeat his success behind the camera while starring in front of it as well?

Released today, Tere Bin Laden tells the tale of Ali Hassan, an ambitious young reporter who is desperate to emigrate to the USA to live the American dream. But time after time his visa application is turned down.

Finally, when Ali meets an Osama Bin Laden look-a-like he comes up with a ruse to make fake videos of the elusive terrorist. This will give him a fabulous scoop and then that precious job in the US.

The scheme doesn’t go according to plan and soon he’s up to his neck in trouble with the secret services on his tail and President personally involved.

Made in Mumbai (or Bombay) and set in Pakistan, the film stars the Pakistani model and singer Ali Zafar in his first foray into the movies.

The Tere Bin Laden is definitely played for laughs, and contains some satirical swipes at the expense of the heavy handed US foreign policy makers, intelligence agencies and immigration authorities, as well as Bin Laden and his own ludicrous set up.

The title uses a Hindi pun on the word ‘bin’, which means ‘son of’ in Arabic and ‘without’ in Hindi. So, Tere Bin Laden means roughly ‘Without You, Laden’ in Hindi.

Bollywood is no stranger to these topics and has already made Taliban: The Musical.

One wonders what will be made of it in Afghanistan, where Bollywood movies are very popular but were banned by the Taliban.
