It was the film that teamed up Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as unlikely twin brothers, and now Twins looks set for a sequel, this time with the manic energy of Eddie Murphy added into the mix.

Murphy will presumably play a surprise sibling to the physically and intellectually perfect Julius (Schwarzenegger) and the rather less saintly and slightly more morally compromised Vincent (DeVito).

The three actors are all confirmed to appear, but as yet the film is still looking for a writer to put meat on the bones of this idea. Twins, which hit UK cinemas in 1989, was directed by Ivan Reitman, however it doesn’t look like he will be in charge for this second outing, which leaves the spot open for another comedy-loving, success-seeking director.

Twins was well-received when it first hit cinemas, and the humour throughout the film sat well with audiences of that time. However, will it work as well the second time around, especially with Murphy’s harshly criticised A Thousand Words still fresh in people’s minds? In theory, Triplets has the potential to be a fun, feel-good comedy, but in practice, this could go one of two ways. The three acting giants will either gel really well together and come out with some great quotable lines, or everything could fall apart in a pile of cheesy comedy and over-acting. Whoever ends up writing the script would be wise to update it for the current audience, if they want to avoid people wishing it had been left well alone.

The action movie veterans Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are set to collaborate again. They have been confirmed to star in Mikael Hafstrom’s The Tomb.

Back in the 80s they competed for the world’s greatest action star crown, Stallone being most famous for the Rocky and Rambo franchises, while Arnie was brutal in The Terminator and tough in Conan.

The world has moved on since then though. The muscled action stars have been replaced with leaner heroes aka Aaron Johnson in Kick-Ass. So what do they do to counter it? They team up of course!

Sly has been confirmed as Ray Breslin in The Tomb for a while, but now Arnie will join him, making this their second collaboration after Sly hired Arnie to star in The Expendables 2.

The story follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who designs high tech security prisons that are impregnable. However when he is framed and thrown into a prison designed by himself, he must fight through his own systems to clear his name and convict the bad guy.

It sounds quite cool actually, and completely within both their comfort zones. Arnold will appear as Church, an inmate who “fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour.” So basically he’s the staple wise man, who’ll probably die heroically, if the script follows tradition.

Producer Mark Canton had this to say:

“I am thrilled to be making The Tomb with these two film icons … We have been working long and hard to bring them together for this dynamic project.”

Schwarzenegger cheekily announced the news by posting a picture of himself and Sly in twin hospital beds as they wait to get ‘surgery’.

“After all the stunts and abuse of The Expendables 2, it was time for a little tune-up,” Arnold wrote. “Now we are ready for another round of great times and action!”

The Tomb begins shooting in the spring. The Expendables 2 is out on the 17th August 2012.

This particular superhero has a unique perspective as he is having to adjust to the modern world. Captain America has been frozen since the 1940s, so while everyone else is used to the way things are, Rogers will still be trying to figure out what’s what.

Whedon has directed some fantastic material in the past and you can take a look at our last article on him here.

The Avengers also features Robert Downey Jr. as the billionaire genius Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Lou Ferrigno as the voice of The Incredible Hulk and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. The storyline follows Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. as they unite the superheroes in order to save the world. The baddie is played by Tom Hiddleston, who goes by the name of Loki and has an army behind him.

The Avengers is highly anticipated, especially by Marvel Comics’ fans. The film is based on screenplay by Zac Penn and Joss Whedon. From the trailer, it looks like there will be lots of action and plenty of witty quips, especially from Tony Stark. You can check out the trailer here and the film will be released on April 27th in the UK.

It’s fifth time lucky for The Terminator to save the world and to blow our minds once again, with Arnie as the Terminator, plus the possibility of the original Sarah Connor being cast.

Shrugging off comments that he may be too old for an action hero part, the 63-year-old former Californian Governor is back to play the heroic indestructible terminating robot.

Director of the new film, Justin Lin, also revealed that he would love to bring back the feisty fighting mum, full of attitude and impressive stunts, for the Final Salvation film.

Despite that the mentally unstable woman suspiciously dies of leukaemia in the third film, Lin now has someone interesting to resurrect.

Rumours suggest that the next terminator instalment could feature a Star Trek -style revamp, touching on a warped time-line, which will create a new narrative thread.

According to Lin, Sarah is ‘such a big part of the franchise’ and hopes to re-engage with the thematic drive of the original film.

Creating a new time-line would no doubt cover the unclear ending at the end of Terminator Salvation (2009) and also develop the strengths of the Chronicles TV series.

The Fast and the Furious director is determined to find the right people to execute the proposed 2014 film, but ‘I have my own criteria, and if they don’t pan out, I won’t make it’.

In that case, lets hope it’s not Asta La Vista to the Terminator 5.

Total Recall is, ignoring Arnie’s awful-as-ever acting, a good watch. Now, it’s being remade, and this time, Nighy’s up to play Kuato (played by George Bell in the original), the leader of the Mars rebellion.

With Total Recall, you’re at something of an advantage. The plot is already fine, though if you remove the Nineties melodrama filter it gets even better. You can’t find a worse actor than Arnold Schwarzenegger, and considering Colin Farrell is the one playing Doug Quaid (minus the Austrian accent), you really can’t go far wrong.

Doug Quaid is your average, everyday builder. He has a job, a wife, and a comfortable home life. But he longs to explore the human colonies on Mars, and one day, he gets in touch with Rekall, a company specialising in memory implantation – holiday memories being far cheaper than an actual holiday to the Red Planet.

Things get complicated when parts of his real identity are awakened during the process of having happy holiday recollections inserted into his mind. He soon realises that he’s actually a secret agent and that his entire life was a fabrication. Escaping to Mars, he then pursues his own destiny, a bizarre combination of Quaid and his secret self.

It’s a great plot, and was based on Phillip K. Dick’s novelette ‘We’ll Remember it For You Wholesale.’ Bearing in mind other films based on his writing include Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) and A Scanner Darkly (novel of the same name), I couldn’t be happier to check this one out. More on this as it comes.

Yeah, I’m not entirely sure what to say either, other than this sounds like a crazy mix-up of generic action-hero Arnie waffle and the genius of Stan Lee combined with the Terminator.

I’m not entirely sure how he went from being a muscled superman, to an actor, to the Governor of California, but Arnold Schwarzenegger has had one hell of a career, and it shows no signs of stopping. Finally embracing his “Governator” nickname, he’s joined forces with Spiderman, Fantastic Four and X-Men (to name but a few) creator Stan Lee to create a cartoon series about Arnie’s career as a super-suited crime-fighter after stepping down from his post.

There’s an “Arnie Cave”, and “super-suits”, “super vehicles” and even a 13-year old computer-whiz sidekick called Zeke Muckerberg (no prizes for guessing who that’s a parody of). Not to mention an evil organisation called Gangsters Imposers Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-Cons, or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men for short, which would appear to be a play on Arnie’s assumable opinion that everyone is less masculine than he is. Even thuggish criminals. Good Lord.

It’s… it’s an idea, definitely, and I’m not sure how it’s going to pan out, as at the moment it reads as the sort of thing Stan Lee would come up with – familiar, safe, and full of stereotypes and nothing that’s going to stimulate the sort of people who’d watch a cartoon about the ex-body-builder/robot/public-official. Unsure of how this one’s going to pan out, really, and it’s tempting to ponder if it’ll hit the cinemas (everything does, eventually).

Then again, this could just be an early April Fool’s joke, given that Entertainment Weekly broke the story as a cover feature… over the death of Liz Taylor. Odd. We’ll see. And check out the concept art below.

Oh yes. The king of action cinema (sorry, Chuck Norris) is back, and he’s eyeing up a film set during WWII. Go go gadget Governator!

Bar a brief cameo in The Expendables, Arnie’s been gone from the movie scene for quite a while, and it feels more than a little bit empty without his comically unchangeable accent and massive guns. At sixty, he’s no spring chicken, but that’s not stopping him from saving a load of POWs in the script he’s taking a closer look at.

Wings as Eagles focuses on Ostermann (hopefully played by Arnie), a German soldier who goes against orders to rescue a load of prisoners of war. Whether they’re German soldiers or Allied forces isn’t clear, but apparently Ostermann was intended to be an older soldier, so that works out perfectly for the big man.

Although it may not be quite confirmed as yet, it seriously looks like we’re going to see the Governator back in cinemas, and that’s something to celebrate. Whether you love him for Terminator, The Running Man, or Kindergarten Cop he’s got something for everyone.

The rumour mill has been churning for quite a while, ever since the announcement that Kurt Wimmer had prepared a script and Len Wiseman would be directing.

There are of course other names in the running, including Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy, however Farrell is definitely the front runner at this stage.

The original Total Recall was directed by Paul Verhoeven and was released in 1990. It stars Arnie as an apparently ordinary construction worker, who is actually a freedom fighter from Mars sent to Earth to restore order.

The film, which also stars Sharon Stone, is based on a story by cult American Sci Fi author Philip. K. Dick called “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”. This is not the first time one of Dick’s stories has been adapted to film. Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly and Minority Report are also based on his writing. Farrell, of course, already starred in Minority Report, so would be a good choice to work with Dick’s material again.

Sony apparently want the film to start shooting in March, so there is still some time to choose the lead. But whether it’s Farrell, Hardy or Fassbender, we’re still not convinced they should even update the sci-fi classic. What do you think?

The Expendables comes with a cast of some of the finest male action stars of the last twenty to thirty years. The star, one Sly Stallone, is eager to do it again.

The superstar was speaking to the LA Times this week, and discussed his plans for another Expendables film if this one turned out to be a box office hit. It’s got him, Arnie, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham… is there realistically any chance whatsoever it’ll do badly?

“If this does perform, I think it will open a little more liquidity in funding the sequel,” says Stallone. “I have an idea ready to go. People think doing a sequel is easy, but it’s not because you need the element of surprise. I’m going to try to do something that’s quite radical.”

I’m not entirely sure what he could do that would be radical, bar portraying the entire super-macho cast in a film about getting in touch with their feminine side, but he probably means taking the action heroes and placing them in a different scenario entirely.

One of the key issues that lies in wait when it comes to films like these, is the fan-boy to reality ratio. For every thousand fan-boys excited about a film, only two or three everyday film-goers will be. Given that there are far more everyday film-goers than fanboys, this tends to equate into the hype being far more than the revenue.

This was a big problem with a lot of films, and let’s be frank; The Expendables is an action fanboy’s dream film. Short of Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee (R.I.P.) and Chow Yun Fat (in this writer’s opinion, anyway), the film contains all the old boys we used to love watching.

So, why was it so hard to find funding for the film? The answer lies in the previous paragraph; “old boys”. They are getting on a bit, and when an all-star cast begins to look like the last gasp for a lot of tired old duffers, this tends to have a negative impact. (Of course, that’s not meant to be directed at Bruce Willis. I would never insult you, kind sir.)

Here at TFR we’re pretty excited about the film, and lets hope it manages to smash box office records and even becomes a film we’ll remember as fondly as the generations before us recall the Rat Pack showing up in the original Ocean’s Eleven. Best of luck, Stallone; you might just need it.

Last night was the UK première of The Expendables, but with a lack of cast in attendance, ex-glamour model Jordan stole the show.

Stars of the film Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren were the only members of the all-star cast to attend.

Instead of being joined by Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, they posed with members of the British military.

Despite the display of manly muscle and the likes of the legendary Rocky star Sly Stallone, it was Brit Katie Price who seems to have got the papers talking today.

Dressed in a see-through black tunic with her underwear clearly on display, skin-tight thigh-high black boots and a killer pout, she spent time posing on the red carpet.

What got people talking was the absence of her cage fighting husband on her arm. Alex Reid reportedly couldn’t attend due to training commitments in Amsterdam the following morning.

To make matters worse for Alex, Katie was later seen cosying up to 23- year-old boxer Amir Khan at the after-party at Planet Hollywood.

It is rumoured that Katie and Amir dated briefly last year, but Katie insists they are just good friends, having met while filming TV show Scream If You Know The Answer.

While Katie caused controversy, writer, director and actor of the film, Stallone revealed his desire to be a role model.

The 64-year-old actor said: “Every generation has to have a hero and this generation has the superhero, it’s evolved. But after Avatar it’s like, ‘Stop, let’s go back to basics’.

“Young men need good examples, role models. I know I do, and I hope I might be one of the influences on young guys.”

He went on to defend the film that a number of critics have criticised for the level of violence in it : “I always believe the violence is justifiable. The one thing in my films … I only kill people that need to be killed.”

The Expendables tells the story of a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Of course, things are never as easy as they first appear and with an innocent life in danger, the men struggle to complete the mission together. The film pays homage to the action blockbuster films of the 1980′s and early 90′s and even stars a number of actors we associated with action films of that era.

The film will be released in the UK on August 19th.

What do you think, will you be watching it for a serious dose of testosterone?

See below for pictures from the red carpet .
