An English playboy living in America, Arthur stands to receive a $950 million inheritance – as long as he marries heiress Susan Johnson, played by Jennifer Garner. Unfortunately, he’s fallen for the charms of a tour guide, played by Greta Gerwig – forcing him to make the choice between love and money.

With this in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at a few other films which have seen British characters at large in the United States. Here are are few of our favourites…

There has certainly been much anticipation surrounding the latest film from Mr. Brand, who last year reprised his Forgetting Sarah Marshall character, Aldous Snow, in Get Him to the Greek.

Arthur sees him play a role which might not be vastly different, but should be quite enjoyable all the same. The film is the story of a drunken playboy, who will only receive his inheritance if he agrees to marry a socialite (Jennifer Garner) chosen by his mother (Geraldine James). However, he’s prepared to risk it all for one woman (Greta Gerwig), and attempts to live without his fortune – with a little help from his nanny (Helen Mirren).

However, the film has already received some criticism. While we all know that playing a hedonistic charmer is exactly what Brand does best, he’ll certainly be under more scrutiny than usual as he attempts to step into the shoes once occupied by comedy legend Dudley Moore – who played Arthur in the 1981 original.

The film has already been condemned by fans of the original, for the ‘modernisation’ changes it makes within the script. Others have also questioned whether a remake is necessary at all – whilst the 1981 film enjoyed box office success and earned itself a couple of Oscars, it was never really considered to be a masterpiece. In fact, the sequel was such a failure that Moore disowned it completely.

However, from the looks of this trailer, Brand‘s well-honed comic delivery is still very much on form, and the script could well include a fair few funny moments. Throw in the impressive supporting cast and well-chosen soundtrack, and I think it’s fair to say that we’re quite looking forward to the whole thing.

Arthur is due to be released in UK cinemas on 22nd April.

Brad was spotted minus the beard in Los Angeles on the set of his latest movie Moneyball.

It’s hard to believe but the heart throb has been growing it for a whole year!

The 46-year-old shaved off the controversial facial hair to play Oakland Athletics baseball manager Billy Beane.

The movie tells the story of Billy putting together a football team based on a computer analysis system, and is based on a book by Michael Lewis. Sounds a bit dull if you ask us.

Anyway, it also stars Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright and is being directed by Oscar- nominated Bennett Miller, which admittedly sounds rather promising.

Meanwhile as Brad looses his beard, joker Russell Brand has gained one, well a fake one at least.

Currently in New York, where he’s filming the remake of the classic 1981 film Arthur that starred Dudley Moore,  Brand stepped out in the disguise while filming a scene.

The new film also stars Jennifer Garner, Greta Gerwig, and Nick Nolte. Dame Helen Mirren plays Arthur’s nanny, replacing the butler role that John Gielgud won an Oscar for in the original.

Rumour has it that Jennifer Garner is set to play his love interest and Oscar winner Helen Mirren already is confirmed to star in it.
This version has been rewritten by Peter Baynham, known for writing Borat and will be directed by Jason Winer.
Arthur, originally stared Dudley Moore as a drunk who was heir of a large fortune which he would only get if he married a woman he did not love.  It’s a pretty classic film that we can definitely see Russell Brand in.
The film is reportedly going to start being shot next month.
