I’m a fan of documentaries, and this one is no exception – Keanu Reeves, interviewing some of the most successful living directors in the world, about 35mm film.

Most people tend to hate on Keanu, but I really like his acting and his work in general. But to see him doing a documentary is very interesting – projects like that come from a passion for the subject, not money – one would guess, at least.

Traditional film – that is, non-digital film – is dying, and Reeves has sought out and interviewed everyone from George Lucas (Star Wars, THX 1138) to James Cameron (Avatar, Terminator), Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Hugo) to David Lynch (Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive), with the intent of hearing how they feel about film cells passing into history in favour of the digital medium.

It looks interesting, thought-provoking and – if you’re not too well read up on the history of filmmaking – educational. If you were into Channel Four’s recent The Story of Film documentary series, you’re likely to enjoy this. The trailer is below, and the documentary will première at the Berlin International Film Festival in February of this year. Enjoy the trailer.

Back in January we found out that Brit actor Henry Cavill won the coveted role of Clark Kent in the film that the The Dark Knight team, Christopher Nolan and screenwriter David S Goyer, are also working on.

Adams, who is a three-time Oscar nominee, found out on Sunday via a phone call from Snyder himself. Speaking about the role Snyder said:

“There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

We don’t know exactly what her role will involve, but Snyder has said she will be “a lynchpin”.

“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today,” he continued.

“What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”

We think Adams, who from Enchanted to The Fighter has been excellent in whatever she has been in, will make a great Lois Lane. She and Cavill are joined by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane who are playing Superman’s adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Snyder is currently promoting his latest film, an action fantasy called Sucker Punch, which is released in the UK this Friday.

Like submarines? Like crazy 3D CGI and lots of loud noises and bright colours? If you’ve seen Avatar, chances are you like at least the latter three. So what about Fantastic Voyage?

A remake of a 1966 film following a team of scientists being zapped down to microscopic size and sent into a human body to save the life of a colleague, Fantastic Voyage has already been parodied countless times and is ripe pickings for Family Guy and the Cartoon Network brigade.

However, it’s also ideal for someone looking to make a huge amount of cash by turning it into a 3D extravaganza of strange environments, cool technology and a group of hero nerds. No surprises Avatar‘s James Cameron is involved with the film’s production, then.

However, it’s been a while since the project was announced, and still no director had been found. Enter Shawn Levy, the man behind Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen. Certainly not the person you’d slot into this role, traditionally, but then again it’s always refreshing to see an accomplished film expert step out of their comfort zone and do something wonderful.

However, the film-fan community have raised a few valid points, notably why James Cameron is always so heavily involved with films that seem to be largely under his direction rather than, well, that of the director. Hopefully this won’t be another self-indulgent CGI fantasy, but with 3D films, that’s usually the case. More on this as it develops.

The Avatar director is said to be working on a family film, using a range of the well-loved Cirque du Soleil performances. He is working closely with the Chronicles of Narnia director Andrew Adamson, who has come up with a storyline.

Apparently both Cameron and Adamson have been working together for a while on this project and have already filmed some Las Vegas performances of the show. Not much else is known at this stage other than that there is likely to be a series of films, which will all incorporate Cirque du Soleil in their storylines.

Cirque du Soleil is a hugely popular circus company which mixes traditional circus arts with street entertainment. Over the years they have created various shows, which have had successful runs all over the world.

So, what do you think? Will a 3D film version be as good as the real thing?

There have been lots of rumours flying around over the last two days about casting for the upcoming Zach Snyder Superman movie.

Apparently Brit actor Matthew Goode, who you may recognise from A Single Man or another Snyder film Watchmen, is the favourite for the role.

He might not have the hunky physique that Clark Kent has just yet, but we can certainly see him in the role and he’s a great actor.

And for Lois Lane? Rumour has it that Anne Hathaway may be offered the role and, while she certainly looks the part, there are a number of other actress who could also do the job.

As for the plot, the script will be written by David S Goyer and The Dark Knight co-writer, Jonathan Nolan. His brother Christopher is reportedly producing.

Speaking about the film, Snyder said: “The film will focus on early days of Superman, so there will be no links with other films. This is not a remake then.

“Similarly, although I still can not talk about the script, I can assure you that this new Superman will not be based on a comic book in particular.”

It doesn’t give much away which is probably, why some crazy rumours have been floating around, such as a plot which sees Clark Kent getting involved in a tribal war in West Africa. Meanwhile, others are saying that the film will be Avatar-esque, with Synder using CGI, like James Cameron did.

Whether any of these stories are true,we’ll have to wait and see, but we’ll keep you informed.

After playing Na’vi creature Neytiri in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar, and finding herself caught up in last month’s crime drama Takers, Saldana has landed the lead role in upcoming film Columbiana.

It looks like Saldana’s going to be looking more than a little Lara Croft-esque for her role as Cataleya Restrepo, a woman who witnessed her parents’ murder in Colombia’s capital of Bogotá when she a child.

As an adult, she works for her gangster uncle as an assassin, but spends her free time trying to track down the mobster behind her parents’ death in order to take her revenge.

She’ll be joined by French-American actor Michael Vartan, who is best known for his television appearances US action drama, Alias. In fact, the French influences don’t stop there, with Luc Besson producing and co-writing with his frequent collaborator, Robert Mark Kamen.

Filming for this production began back in August, with shooting taking place in locations which include Chicago, New Orleans, Mexico, and Paris. We’ll keep you posted!

It’s nearly our favourite time of year here at the TFR Towers- Halloween! This year we thought why not draw inspiration from the amazing horror and actions films out there.

After about one minute of looking, something became obvious, a lot of the characters were pretty darn sexy. And we all know that Halloween is a great opportunity to dress in outrageously sexy outfits, smother ourselves in fake blood and call it a Halloween costume. Instead of leaving you to do that again, we decided to guide you through some of the saucier Halloween costumes inspired by the movies.

Who?Cherry Darling from Planet Terror
Why? It’s pretty cool that after Cherry loses her leg to the zombies, instead of getting a Heather Mills-esque replacement leg, she only goes and gets a gun in its place. Pretty handy for fighting off zombies and who knew that a machine gun in place of a leg could look so hot?
DIY: We would not recommend chopping off a limb for this, so you may have to just strap a toy gun (do not use a real machine gun) to your leg. Wear a red bikini, small leather skirt, and a seriously bad ass look on your face and there you have it – Cherry Darling.
Sexy rating: 7.5/10

Who? Neytiri from Avatar
Why? Well, she is pretty much naked apart from a slick of blue paint, so you can see every curve of her body. And let’s just say she’s clearly at the height of her physical fitness which is shown off by her svelte, stream-line body. Oh and those eyes, those extraordinary, hypnotising eyes…
DIY: If you have got the bod just paint yourself blue, if not you can luckily find lots of already made Neytiri costumes, or ‘sexy Neytiri’ costumes as they are called. Pop in some gold contacts, and nimbly leap about and you’ll be mistaken for a Na’vi all night.
Sexy rating?6/10

Who? Sarah Sanderson from Hocus Pocus
Why? She is billed as the incredibly beautiful sister and she is. With her long flowing hair and corseted dresses, it is no wonder she seduces everyone with her siren song.
DIY: Unless you are going to spend a lot of money on a replica costume, the best thing to do is get a red corset, preferably in velvet, a full-length matching skirt and a wavy blonde wig. Broomstick is optional.
Sexy rating? 5/10

Who? The three-breasted woman from Total Recall
Why? It’s just funny isn’t it? Although she only appears briefly in the movie, it is certainly one of the most memorable moments. And this costume would be great for both men and women to pull off.
DIY: If you don’t happen to have three breasts, you’ll have to fashion some from goodness knows where or buy some of the fake ones you can find in some joke shops. And that’s all you need, other than that, all you’ll need is some serious balls.
Sexy rating? 3/10 (one for each boob)

Who? Edward Cullen/Jacob Black from Twilight
Why? Unless you’re not human you will have noticed these two all over the place. You’re either in Team Jacob or Team Edward, so pick accordingly. Of course, it will slightly depend on how muscley you are.
DIY: For Edward, whiten your face, gel your hair up, maybe wear a small amount of black eye-liner and dress smartish, perhaps a grey or white shirt. For Jacob, just take off your shirt.
Sexy rating? 9/10 for Edward (we’re team Edward at TFR) and a 7/10 for Jacob

Who? Any one from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Why? It’s the ultimate in camp sexiness. There’s corsets, fishnets, maids, sequins and some amazing make-up. Boys can get involved with this one too and you can all have lots of fun with it.
DIY: It’s pretty easy to cobble together a costume for any one of the characters in this film. All you really need is to let your inhibitions go.
Sexy rating? It could range from 0-6/10, we think, depending on who you go as.

Who? Alice from Resident Evil
Why? She is smart, can use a gun pretty well and is great at martial arts. And she is played by a real life supermodel, Milla Jovovich
DIY: This is one of the easiest costumes to pull off and it won’t even look too homemade. All you need is black boots and a half ripped red dress. Oh, and a massive gun and a look that says you mean business.
Sexy rating? 7.5/10

Who? Ripley from Alien
Why? Played by the legendary Sigourney Weaver, Ripley was without a doubt a seminal role and really made a difference to gender stereotypes in film. She spends most of the film looking slightly crazed and very sweaty, but she somehow manages to pull it off.
DIY: Again a gun would be great, a brown boiler suit or jump suit if you want to be a little more stylish. And oodles of sweat.
Sexy rating? 3/10

Who? Nurses from Silent Hill
Why? Normally zombies are scary looking and not remotely attractive. In Silent Hill they wear sexy nurse outfits, admittedly their heads are bandaged up, and they are covered in blood and God knows what else, but somehow they still look pretty good.
DIY: For this you need the smallest nurses outfit you can find and plenty of fake blood. You can find quite a few tutorials online about how to do the head bandages to make your perfect homemade costume.
Sexy rating? 6/10

Who? Donnie from Donnie Darko
Why? Well he’s brooding and slightly mysterious and when he wears that skeleton costume with the grey hoody, pwoahhh.
DIY: Get black leggings and t-shirt and paint bones on with white paint or alternatively buy a ready made outfit from a fancy dress shop. Put your hood up, act a bit crazy and Donnie’s your uncle.
Sexy rating? 8/10

It may not be released in the UK until 1st October, but Takers is already attracting a fair of media attention after preview screenings in the US, albeit for not entirely positive reasons.

That may be because it should be quite a reputable, if not entirely plausible or original, crime-based action thriller. There’s an impressive cast, including Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon and Paul Walker, as well as Zoe Saldana, who you might recognise from her computer generated character in Avatar, and Chris Brown, who’s best known for his music… amongst other things.

Somewhat ironically, rapper T.I. who was recently released from prison, is cast as an ex-convict who has been, erm, recently released from prison.

The plot involves a group of bank robbers planning their biggest ever heist. It’s a tried and tested formula that works – so what’s not to love?

Well, plenty, apparently. It’s fairly obvious from the trailer that this is set to be an action-heavy film – car chases, shootouts, helicopters, that sort of thing. The trailer is also sure to include those all important mobster-movie conventions – scantily-clad women drinking champagne, sneering men in expensive suits smoking cigars, buildings bursting into flames whilst the perpetrators walk calmly away…

Whatever the cliché, Takers has it covered, including a scene which looks to be almost directly lifted from crime classic, True Romance.

Still, nothing wrong with an unoriginal plot if the acting’s good and the script’s enjoyable – see much of Tarantino’s stuff. It’s when a film is lacking in three components that it starts to run into trouble – which, judging from what the critics have said, may well be the case for Takers.

But then again, as Betsy Sharkey writes in the LA Times, “too much — or for that matter, any — characterization might get in the way of the film’s raison d’être: standing-around-looking-cool sequences”. Decide for yourself when the film is released over here on 1st October, and check out the trailer below!

Speaking recently to US journalists, the super-director opened up about the possibility of not one, but two sequels to the billion-dollar Avatar.

“Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rainforest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well,” he says.

This is pretty exciting news, though we’re still waiting for a 3D home release, and the six-minutes-longer version of the film in cinemas later this year. Avatar demolished box office records and stayed at the top, beaten for the prestigious Best Picture at the Oscars by The Hurt Locker. This was a sore spot for Cameron, as it was directed by none other than his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow.

There’s also the possibility of the third film venturing into space or even other planets, an ideal opportunity for Cameron to get his imagination working again. He’s a great sci-fi writer, even if Avatar was a more expensive, sci-fi take on Disney’s Pocohontas, though it begs the question – how far is he going to take a franchise that’s already made over two billion dollars? And will Avatar 2 be a re-telling of another Disney classic, Finding Nemo perhaps? Feel free to make yourselves heard, guys!
