We’ve already been teased with various costume images from The Amazing Spider-Man, and treated to one trailer way back in July last year, but now it appears that someone’s spidey senses have decided it’s about time we take a look at a second trailer for the reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise.

If you didn’t already have a fairly good idea about the plot of the Spider-Man story – which, seeing as it’s a reboot, you’re more than likely to – then you definitely will now. The latest trailer has ditched the POV shots which drew several computer game comparisons last summer, but it still provides us with a fair few glimpses of Andrew Garfield in action as Spidey himself, as well as his cheeky alter-ago, Peter Parker.

If you weren’t convinced that the Mary Jane-esque Emma Stone could cut it as alternative love-interest, Gwen Stacy, then the latest trailer also offers a little more footage that brings her real-life chemistry with boyfriend Garfield to the big screen. Oh and there’s a glimpse or two of The Lizard that is Rhys Ifans!

It’s one of the lengthiest and most extravagant marketing campaigns for a film that we’ve seen in a while – the Spider-Man logo has been projected onto everything from the Sydney Opera House to Rome’s Colosseum, for goodness sake – but this second trailer is a sure sign that we’re on home run towards The Amazing Spider-Man‘s release.

Still, the people behind the film have surely got a point to make, in that Marc Webb’s reboot will be very different to that of Sam Raimi‘s interpretation of the Marvel Comics superhero stories. The Amazing Spider-Man certainly looks set to delve far deeper into Peter Parker’s past, as well as making good use of the decision to ‘go 3D’, with some spectacular action sequences.

The Amazing Spider-Man is due to reach UK cinemas on 4th July 2012.

For some time, Lohan has been considered the frontrunner for the much-coveted role. However, speaking with E!News, it seems that the executive producer of the upcoming Lifetime film, Larry Thompson, has revealed that Transformers actress could also be lined up for the role of the Hollywood star. Thompson stated that he had been “talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox”.

As one of the most famous film stars that ever lived, the role of Taylor, who died in March last year, is certainly a prestigious one. The Cleopatra star was placed seventh on the American Film Institute’s list of the ‘Greatest American Screen Legends’, and is often credited as having played a role in triggering the sexual revolution of the 1960s. With Taylor having won two Oscars and appearing in a huge number of classic films, including eleven in which she starred alongside husband Richard Burton, it is certainly questionable as to whether or not either Lohan or Fox is truly deserving of such a role.

Whilst Lohan could certainly be seen to have a physical resemblance to the screen legend, as well as the background as a child actress with addiction issues, it seems that her ongoing probation status could be what’s standing in the way of her nabbing the role.

Perhaps someone with slightly more serious screen credentials might be more appropriate choice to play Taylor – both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angelina Jolie have been mooted for the role in the past. However, following her success in embodying iconic Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis’ My Week with Marilyn, perhaps Michelle Williams might be prepared to shed her blonde-bombshell style in order to work her magic in Liz and Dick.

Current hipster darling, Zooey Deschanel, could also be seen as having the potential to create Taylor’s recognisable image, although at 32 she is a little older than Lohan and Fox, who are both age 25. On the other hand, Emma Stone’s critically acclaimed performance in The Help would perhaps give her a certain credibility in taking on such as notable role.

Lifetime plan to start shooting Liz and Dick in Spring, so we’re unlikely to have to wait long to find out who will finally be cast as Taylor. Perhaps those who don’t make the cut might be considered for the same role in the film adaptation of Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger’s Taylor biography, Furious Love, which Martin Scorsese was rumoured to be interested in directing for Paramount last summer.

Written by Dan Fogelman and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, Crazy Stupid Love has echoes of Love Actually as it follows multiple love stories. However, it has a more realistic edge to it and the comedic moments are brilliantly updated.

Steve Carell’s plays Cal Weaver, an unfortunate man whose life is falling apart. This is the sort of role we’ve come to expect of Carrell recently, he seems to have carved out a niche as the awkward character who you root for even when he keeps doing stupid things. It all started when he starred in the American version of The Office, but he plays these likeable losers well and gets us all laughing, so why not?

When Cal’s childhood sweetheart, played by Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven), says she wants a divorce he does not know where to turn. Until, that is, he turns to the bar where Ryan Gosling’s character reigns supreme over the ladies. Gosling is Jacob Palmer, the polar opposite to Cal. If Cal is a lady’s man whose lady has left him bereft, The Notebook actor is all suave sexiness as a smooth-talking ladies man. Emma Stone’s character puts it more simply, he’s the “hot guy from the bar”.

Jacob takes Cal through a transformation in both clothes and attitude. He teaches him the ways of the smooth-talker, while taking home countless women of course, until he realises that he may have learned a few things himself from Cal. Luckily for us, Jacob is likeable and isn’t too self-obsessed to crack some great jokes. He takes his role as ladies man very seriously though and wears a flashy ring and sports rock-hard abs – which prompt Stone’s character to exclaim, “Seriously? It’s like you’re photoshopped!” Carrell and Gosling bounce off each other well. The laughs are surprisingly funny, so much so that some feel as though they could have been improvised on the spot.

Meanwhile, Cal’s wife Emily is involved in her own teetering relationship with David Lindhagen, who is played by Kevin Bacon (X-Men: First Class). They slept together once, prompting her to want a divorce from Cal. However, it is clear that moving on from her husband to her office co-worker will not be as simple as she may have thought. Their relationship is like most of the others in the show – awkward yet somehow containing a fuzzy centre. Then we have Cal and Emily’s 13-year-old son Robbie who is played by Jonah Bobo. He is in love with his babysitter, played by Analeigh Tipton. Unfortunately for Robbie however, that babysitter is 17 and in love with Cal who has no idea until, well…let’s just say hilarity ensues with some fantastic twists and turns.

While Crazy Stupid Love is not your typical cheesy romantic comedy, that is a good thing. It manages to find the right balance between comedy and reality, while still being a fantastic feel-good film in its own way. The cheesiness is handled skilfully and avoids being too annoying: it is very refreshing to be able to laugh out loud at a romcom without cringing at its predictability. There are so many great lines in this film that just keep coming, making perfect quoting material. If you want to be able to practice, you can pre-order it now on Blu-ray and DVD, before it is released on 30th January.

This film tells the story of the 2009 novel of the same name by author Kathryn Stockett. Set in 1960 Jackson, Mississippi, Stone stars as a budding writer (Skeeter) who returns to her hometown after finishing college. However, she’s shocked way in which black maids are being treated within the local community, and decides to write an exposé from the perspective of ‘the help’.

Stone is joined by the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Octavia Spencer (Dinner For Schmucks) and Viola Davis (Doubt), in what promises to be a touching tale of the struggle for racial equality in 1960s Southern America.

The Help is also the directorial début of Tate Taylor, and has been scored by Oscar-nominee Thomas Newman – the man behind films such as The Shawshank Redemption and American Beauty.

Despite the hard-hitting subject matter, Stone looks like she’ll be as watchable in this as she has been in her more light-hearted films of late, such as Easy A. She’s also finished filming for upcoming comedy Friends with Benefits, in which she stars alongside Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

You can also catch Stone later this year, when she’ll appear along with the likes of Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Julianne Moore in Crazy, Stupid, Love, before taking on the iconic role of Gwen Stacy in 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Help is yet to be given a UK release date, but hits the US this August – check out the trailer below:

Crazy, Stupid, Love sees Steve Carell play a middle-aged man whose wife (Julianne Moore) leaves him, meaning he is faced with the daunting world of dating and very much out of practice. Fortunately, smooth-talking Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling) is on hand to give him a few tips with the ladies – despite the fact that he finds himself falling for ‘game-changer’ Emma Stone.

The film also stars America’s Next Top Model‘s Analeigh Tipton and What Women Want‘s Marisa Tomei, as well as Kevin Bacon and Josh Groban.

It’s certainly a change for Gosling, who we’ve got used to seeing in heartbreak-heavy dramas such as The Notebook and Blue Valentine of late. However, his pairings with Carell and Stone look like they could make for some great comedy moments.

Crazy, Stupid, Love has been scripted by Tangled‘s Dan Fogelman. Directing partners Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have also reunited for this film – their previous joint venture and directorial début being the 2009 rom-com, I Love You Phillip Morris.

It has been reported that Carell will be playing Meryl Streep‘s therapist in Great Hope Springs.

Streep will be working with director David Frankel who she previously worked with on The Devil Wears Prada, when she played the scary fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly.

This time she will play a middle aged woman whose marriage of 30 years is in tatters. The pair agree to attend marriage counselling.

Carrell is in talks for role of Dr Field, who works with the couple at getting their relationship back on track.

At the moment, it’s unclear who will be playing Streep’s husband in the film, however Philip Seymour Hoffman and James Gandolfini are both lined up to be in the film, so could it be one of them?

Carell is known for his part in the US version of The Office and a whole range of comedies, such as Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He has played more serious roles in the past, such as Little Miss Sunshine when he played a gay scholar of French author Marcel Proust, but he is mostly known for his humour. You’ll next see him in Crazy, Stupid, Love, which also stars Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore. Carell is also working as a producer on the film.

Streep has recently taken on the role of Maggie Thatcher for a biopic, called The Iron Lady, about the former UK Prime Minister.

It’s a great cast isn’t it? But does the plot sound interesting enough?

The five actors nominated are former Bond girl, Gemma Arterton, Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson, soon-to-be Spiderman Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy who gave an exceptional performance as Charles Bronson and the only American, Zombieland actress Emma Stone.

Speaking about her nomination, Arterton said:

“I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be one of the shortlisted actors for the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. 2010 was an incredible year for me and to be recognised in this way by both my peers and the film-going public is amazing.

“I’m in very good company with the other actors who have been nominated, so it is a huge compliment to be considered to win this prestigious award.”

The award is particularly special as it is the only one which is voted for by the public. Previous winners include Shia LaBeouf and Kristen Stewart, who have both gone on to be mega stars.

The nominees have been hand picked by the judging panel, which includes rapper Ben Drew (Plan B), director Tom Ford and journalist Charles Gant. This year the award, also known as the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, will be announced at the BAFTAs on February 13.

In other British film news, a recent survey has revealed that the Michael Caine, Sixties classic The Italian Job is the greatest British film of all time. The poll, commissioned by Sky Movies HD, also revealed that Sir Anthony Hopkins is considered the greatest British actor, followed by Laurence Olivier and then Michael Caine. Dame Judi Dench was the favourite actress.

Actors Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes and Blair Underwood had the job of announcing who was up for what.

The King’s Speech, which has already won awards at BIFA, left as a clear front runner, along with The Social Network and Black Swan.

Rather surprisingly, considering the poor reviews, Angelina Jolie has been nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical category for her role in Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist. On hearing the news Jolie laughed, as did we, but not because it seems a bit mad. She said:

“When we found out we were laughing because it’s the first time that I’ve been in the comedic category so it’s new for me.”

The awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is made up of about 85 critics and reporters from all over the world. The event takes place on on January 16 and British comedian/actor Ricky Gervais will host the event once again.

Eisenberg has made several notable appearances on the big screen in recent years. He starred opposite Kristen Stewart in the 2009 comedy-drama film, Adventureland, before appearing alongside Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin in Zombieland a year later. This year, of course, we also saw him star as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network.

But now, it appears, he will be returning to his indie roots with Free Samples, which tells the story of a law school dropout, played by Jess Weixler, who works on a friend’s food truck, where she gives away free samples of ice cream.

Weixler is probably best know for playing the lead role in comedy-horror film Teeth, and was named the ‘New Indie Queen’ by New York Magazine last year.

Eisenberg has been cast as Weixler’s love-interest. Jason Ritter, who previously appeared alongside Eisenberg in The Education of Charlie Banks, will also star in the film, as will  veteran actress Tippi Hedren of Hitchcock’s The Birds and Wedding Crashers Keir O’Donnell.

Eisenberg can also been seen in the upcoming adventure comedy film, 30 Minutes or Less, which is due to be released next year. Free Samples is currently without an official release date, but production is reportedly taking place in Los Angles. We’ll keep you posted!

This film is a less-than-conventional love story of two friends who find they are far too busy to date, but agree to have a casual sexual relationship together. However, rather predictably, things get complicated when they begin to realise they’re more emotionally involved than planned.

Timberlake’s squeaky-clean pop star image might be long gone, he’s certainly looking to bring Sexy Back in this raunchy rom-com. It’s also a fairly different role for Kunis, who we last saw playing a ballerina in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.

Friends with Benefits is directed by Easy A‘s Will Gluck, and features some of the same cast members, such as Emma Stone and Patricia Clarkson. Film veteran Richard Jenkins will also star, along with The Lonely Island‘s Andy Samburg and One Tree Hill‘s Bryan Greenberg. Jason Segel and Rashida Jones also have cameo roles in the film.

Friends with Benefits isn’t due to reach UK cinemas until 19th August, but you can check out the trailer below. Or, if you can’t wait that long, there’s always Ivan Reitman’s No Strings Attached – which looks like pretty much exactly the same film – starring Ashton Kutcher opposite Natalie Portman,  which will be released on February 11th.
