Harry Potter director David Yates is set to take on an adaptation of Emma Forrest’s book Your Voice in My Head, and if rumours are true he wants to hire Emma Watson to star in it.

David Yates has been busy for the past few years, making the last four Harry Potter movies a roaring success, but it would seem he is still attached to the stars of the series.

Slated to be released some time in 2013, Your Voice In My Head is based on the memoir of journalist Emma Forrest. If Yates gets his way, Watson will play the central character Emma, who attempts suicide before she is saved by an optimistic and wise psychiatrist. Except he harbours troubles of his own.

The memoir has been adapted for the screen by Forrest herself.

If she signs, it will be Miss Watson’s third project since her ten year stint as Hermione Granger in the Potter films ended. Her first post Potter project was My Week With Marilyn, followed by this year’s flick The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

As of yet no one else is on board, although the studio behind the new film, Warner Brothers are hoping a big name star like Tom Hanks will be interested in the role of the psychiatrist.

In the meantime, David Yates has quite a few projects on the go. He’s still set to bring the Doctor Who film (whenever that ball starts rolling) onto the big screen, and is set to work on Sony Pictures A Reliable Wife after Your Voice In My Head is done.

You can buy the Harry Potter – The Complete 8-Film Collection DVD on Amazon now.

The first images have been released from The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, starring Emma Watson.

This coming of age film follows the story of high school student, Charlie, who struggles to fit in. He’ll be played by Logan Lerman, who you might recognise from his performances in the title role of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, back in 2010.

However, it is more than likely that all eyes will be on ex-Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, a school senior who becomes the object of Charlie’s affection and who introduces him to a world of sex and drugs. Although Watson had a supporting role in the recent British drama, My Week with Marilyn, her Wallflower performance could prove key if she wants to shake off the Hermione Granger character who she is best known for playing.

They’ll also be joined by Ezra Miller, who we last saw in the role of sinister teen, Kevin Katchadourian, in last year’s film adaptation of We Need To Talk About Kevin. This time around he’ll be playing Patrick, Watson’s gay step-brother. Other familiar faces include Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man and Dinner for Schmucks) and Mae Whitman (Arrested Development, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is based on a epistolary novel of the same name by Stephen Chbosky, who has also penned the screenplay adaptation and taken on the role of director for this upcoming film. Expect The Catcher in the Rye comparisons, along with a nostalgic soundtrack.

The film is set to have its US release later this year, but no word on a UK release date yet. Take a look at more of the newly released stills below!

The Academy doesn’t tend to give recognition to performances in franchises, but Daniel Radcliffe is adamant his Harry Potter co-star Alan Rickman should get a Best Supporting Actor nod.

The actor who plays the most multi-layered and unpredictable character in the entire franchise, Professor Severus Snape, has been there since the series began in 2001.

He was tricky to figure out from the off, what with his unexplained hatred for Harry and contradictory actions. Therefore any member of the audience who hadn’t read the books would have been surprised by the character’s final revelation in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two, one that was performed beautifully by Alan Rickman who helped create an emotional and pivotal scene.

Daniel Radcliffe is complimentary of his co-star:

“I don’t think there is going to be another performance from an actor in a supporting role that is so powerful,” Radcliffe said, “where the actor had the challenge of realising a scene that’s been realised millions of times the world over in the imaginations of readers.”

Ten years and eight films built up to this moment. It must have been a tough challenge for him, and Radcliffe is keen to give credit where credit is due.

“That scene – those revelations about Snape’s past – represented maybe the most anticipated part … [of a] movie in the last 10 years,” Daniel added. “I think Alan does amazing, amazing work.”

We have to agree. And not just in the Harry Potter films. Few can forget his scene-stealing turn as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves or his performance in the original Die Hard, not to mention Truly, Madly, Deeply or Galaxy Quest. In terms of Potter, he (and of course JK Rowling) kept us guessing the whole time who’s side he was on until the very end.

Fans are wholeheartedly in agreement with Daniel’s sentiment. After its release during the summer, the words ‘All of the awards!’ were repeated and reblogged all over the Harry Potter Tumblr and Twitter fandoms.

He’s become something of a national treasure. It’s shame that he will no doubt be snubbed come January.

Do you agree that Alan deserves an Oscar for his role as Severus Snape? Let us know.

My Week with Marilyn is certainly a incredible story with a star-studded cast, so it’s little wonder that the film is already being heavily tipped for Oscar nominations. We interviewed My Week with Marilyn‘s director, Simon Curtis, to find out about the making of the film.

After pursuing the rights to Colin Clark’s two books (The Prince, The Showgirl and Me and My Week with Marilyn) for several years, it’s good to hear Curtis is pleased with the results, “I don’t think I could be happier actually.”

Naturally, there will be more than a few people who are keen to find out how much truth there is in this fascinating tale. While only Clark, and perhaps Monroe, could say how accurate Clark’s books are, Curtis is keen to confirm that My Week with Marilyn certainly sticks closely to Clark’s account.

“I thought that was sort of the point, in a way. There are so many different versions of what you could do here: you could have the Olivier version or the Arthur Miller version… What we were doing was telling Colin Clark’s version of Marilyn at a particular moment in her life, which was in England in 1956. Also, we weren’t just doing the well-known cliché of Marilyn, we were trying to investigate her in a deeper, more serious way.”

The film certainly portrays the screen legend in a way that many audiences will not have seen before. The question of who would take on the responsibility of playing Monroe herself was one which hung over My Week with Marilyn from the early stages of production. Despite much public speculation that actress Scarlett Johansson was the frontrunner for the part – something which Curtis dismisses as “a lot of internet chatter” – it was Michelle Williams who was eventually cast in the much coveted role.

“As soon as Michelle read it and I met her, I was just desperate for her to do it, and I had total confidence in her from that moment on…I just loved her.”

Indeed, Williams gives what is perhaps her most impressive performance to date, capturing the something of the essence of Monroe not purely in her appearance, but her character as a whole. Yet Curtis reveals that he wasn’t aware of the full extent of her talents until after she had been cast.

“To tell the truth, I just knew she was a phenomenal actress, I didn’t know she was also a phenomenal singer and dancer as well, that came later.”

Despite revealing that he has, in the past, experienced issues similar to those Olivier put up with working with Monroe, Curtis is keen assure me that it was not the case in working on this film. Watching My Week with Marilyn, it’s not hard to imagine that the seemingly effortless on-screen dynamics between the cast are grounded in a solid working relationship behind the cameras. While The Prince and The Showgirl may not have been quite the artistic collaboration that both Monroe and Olivier were hoping for, My Week with Marilyn is far more likely to have positive repercussions for all those in involved.

As kiss and tells go, Colin Clark’s story of the week he spent with Marilyn Monroe is a fairly spectacular tale, and one which is superbly pieced together within the Simon Curtis film, My Week with Marilyn.

The film follows the story of 23-year-old Clark, played by Eddie Redmayne, who is clearly thrilled at managing to blag himself a role as assistant to director Laurence Olivier on the set of the 1957 film, The Prince and the Showgirl. Little did he know that he was soon to become the confidant of the most famous actress in the world, Marilyn Monroe.

Stepping bravely into Monroe’s shoes, of course, is Blue Valentine star Michelle Williams. Proving she’s come a long way since her days down at Dawson’s Creek, Williams gives the darkest, and perhaps most truthful, portrayal ever seen of the blonde bombshell on the big screen. As one of the most iconic women of the Twentieth Century, capturing the essence of Marilyn Monroe is likely to be one of the most heavily scrutinised roles in which Williams has appeared. However, from the opening scenes, which see Clark watching her shimmy her way through a reenaction of There’s No Business Like Show Business‘s hit song, ‘Heatwave’, it’s clear that Williams has done her homework. As My Week with Marilyn goes on, Williams succeeds not only in capturing the sexy, radiant, star which Monroe was best known for being, but also a more private side to the actress. From her trademark wiggle to her girlish drawl, Williams’ has undoubtedly taken time to perfect her performance, and yet manages to avoid the distraction of presenting too obvious an impersonation.

Of course, for the majority of viewers, there is little way of knowing how accurate Williams’ ‘behind-closed-doors’ portrayal of Monroe really is. Within the context of My Week with Marilyn, however, it is nothing short of mesmerising, as the audience are gradually invited to share Clark’s experience of stepping into Monroe’s private world and witness the woman behind the performance. For many of those who encountered Monroe on the set of The Prince and The Showgirl, she was certainly beautiful, but often frustrating. If she turned up at all, she was usually late, and sometimes so heavily medicated that she struggled to remember her lines. My Week with Marilyn falters perhaps in over-emphasising this. One begins to wonder how Monroe continued to have a successful acting career at all, especially when we remember that she next appeared in the critically-acclaimed Some Like It Hot. However, this side of her character works well in conjunction with Clark’s unique insight into her world. The audience are invited to discover, as he does, that there is much more to this troubled star than meets the eye.

Williams’ performance is outstanding, but Kenneth Branagh’s portrayal of Sir Laurence Olivier is equally watchable, and certainly the more humorous of the two roles. Aside from the unlikely, light romance between Clark and Monroe, My Week with Marilyn is driven by Monroe’s discordant relationship with Olivier, and the clash between their very different styles of acting. If The Prince and the Showgirl wasn’t the fantastic collaboration that Monroe and Olivier had hoped for, the dynamic between Williams and Branagh is certainly something quite special.

My Week with Marilyn also offers an interesting look at the beginnings of celebrity obsession, before modern security restrictions were in place. Monroe’s modest entourage offer some especially curious characters, including Zoë Wanamaker as intrusive acting coach, Paula Strasberg. Monroe’s friend, photographer and business partner, Milton H. Greene, played by Dominic Cooper, is another intriguing persona, and his relationship with Marilyn feels relatively unexplored within the constraints of Clark’s account. Emma Watson also makes an appearance, albeit a small one, as wardrobe assistant Lucy – offering a subtle touch of the everyday and going some way to counter-balancing Redmayne’s cocky and wide-eyed Clark, while he is busy being swept away by his own unbelievable luck.

Indeed, it is the fact that we are called to believe that these events, or at least a version of them, really did take place which makes this film all the more extraordinary. As a fantasy, a young man winning the affections of a seemingly untouchable movie star is fairly unremarkable. However, Clark’s real-life account of his experience not only provides My Week with Marilyn with a sense of validity, but it allows the film to explore the exceptional circumstances in which high-profile personalities let their guard down around someone who is deemed unimportant. Clark, on the other hand, is presented as a charming character, kind and foolish in equal measure, and it’s not hard to understand why he is willing to jeopardise his filmmaking career in an attempt to save one of the most beguiling actresses he was ever likely to encounter.

My Week with Marilyn hits UK cinemas on 25th November 2011.

My Week With Marilyn had its London premiere on Sunday to the delight of fans that lined the red carpet. And with the star of the film, Michelle Williams, conspicuously absent from the festivities, it was up to the British supporting cast to fill the void. Most notably Emma Watson.

Fresh out of the last Harry Potter movie, and less than a month before its release on DVD, Watson can be seen as Marilyn Monroe’s wardrobe assistant Lucy in the film opening in theatres on the 25th November 2011. It was up to her to bring the Hollywood glamour to the carpet, and boy did she rise to the challenge, wowing the public and media in a stunning black skirt and white peplum top combination, courtesy of Jason Wu. Needless to say she more than made up for Williams’ disappointing, but unavoidable absence.

The film is set around Marilyn Monroe’s brief time in England when she played opposite Lawrence Olivier in The Prince and the Show Girl. Based on the memoirs of Colin Clark, Olivier’s Third Assistant Director (really a dogsbody), the film documents the tension between his boss and Miss Monroe during production. Critics have so far been impressed with Williams’ portrayal of the tragic star, a performance that makes sense of the enigma that was one of the most intriguing stars of the 1950s.

Much speculation of Michelle Williams’ immanent Oscar nomination is already circulating. The Academy are notorious for honoring actors who give convincing portrayals of real people. Last year, the best actor Oscar went to Brit Colin Firth for his role as King George VI in the much acclaimed The King’s Speech.

We’ll have to wait until next year to find out. Until then My Week with Marilyn is released on 25th November 2011.

The trailer for the highly anticipated film, My Week With Marilyn, has finally arrived…

My Week With Marilyn is directed by Simon Curtis and stars Michelle Williams as the iconic singer and actress, Marilyn Monroe. The film is based on two books by filmmaker Colin Clark, who assisted Laurence Olivier during the making of The Prince and the Showgirl, which starred both Olivier and Monroe. However, the production was a traumatic time for Monroe, who was then married to playwright Arthur Miller, as the actress suffered a miscarriage during the shoot, and struggled to cope with the pressures of fame. When Monroe’s husband was out for the country, Clark spent a week with the blonde bombshell, finding himself caught up in something of a whirlwind romance with the star.

There are a few familiar faces in the cast, Kenneth Branagh plays Sir Laurence Olivier and Harry Potter‘s all-grown-up Emma Watson also makes an appearance. Judi Dench is British actress Sybil Thorndike, whilst Zoë Wanamaker plays Monroe’s acting coach, Paula Strasberg. Celebrity photographer Milton H. Greene is played by Dominic Cooper, whilst the role of Clark himself will be played by Eddie Redmayne, who has previously appeared in the likes of The Other Boleyn Girl and Glorious 39.

There’s been much speculation about how Williams – who was heavily nominated for her performance in Blue Valentine – would handle the role of Monroe. However, this trailer suggests that she’ll have no trouble living up to expectations, and Monroe fans will no doubt especially keen to see this film when it reaches UK cinemas on 18th November.

The Harry Potter author, who is now worth a staggering £500 million, will be played by Australian actress Poppy Montgomery, best known for playing an FBI agent in Without A Trace.

Strange Magic, as it is known, will be a made-for-television movie filmed in Canada. It has been reported that the city of Victoria will stand in as Edinburgh, the author’s home town.

The story will follow her early years as an impoverished author, including how she came up with the idea for Harry Potter and her struggle to get it published.

Harry Potter, is as we all know, a hugely successful brand which is now worth £7 billion, largely due to the popular film adaptations of the book.

Talking of Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe has been busy making plans to secure his future after the spectacle-wearing wizard.

It has been confirmed that Radcliffe next foray into film will be in the film The Amateur Photographer. It is an indie comedy from the writer and director Christopher Monger. Yes, we know pairing the words ‘indie’ and ‘Radcliffe’ seem as likely as Harry and Voldermort sorting things out over a cup of tea down in Diagon alley, but that’s what it is. The idea of Radcliffe even doing comedy is pushing it we know, but it shows he is willing to step outside his Hogwarts bubble.

The story is set in a New England town in the 1970s. Radcliffe will play a young man with an unlikely artistic streak which he harnesses to photograph the towns’ people, capturing their most intimate moments. Sounds interesting, we wonder where the comedy comes into it?

Meanwhile he has just finished working on The Woman in Black and he is signed up to star in All Quiet on the Western Front as a German soldier next year. He is also returning to Broadway at the end of this month in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Phew, it’s good to know he’s keeping busy and that Rowling, the woman who gave him his spring board, is also still being recognised, even if it’s only in a made-for-television movie.

The first shots of Rooney Mara as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Lisbeth Salander have finally surfaced!

There is loads of anticipation surrounding David Fincher’s Hollywood adaptation of the first book in the hugely popular Millennium Trilogy series by Stieg Larsson. The Swedish version, starring Noomi Rapace in the role of Lisbeth, was released to critical acclaim back in 2009, and is likely that Fincher will be looking to achieve similar success with this English-language version.

Mara was reported to have beaten off competition from the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan for the part of Lisbeth, despite the fact that the character could not be more different from her last role as The Social Network‘s Erica Albright, which was also directed by Fincher.

And judging by these pics, she’s undergone quite a transformation! The formerly fresh-faced actress, who reportedly didn’t even have her ears pieced prior to this dramatic makeover, looked virtually unrecognisable in pictures taken for W magazine’s feature on the film.

She may look remarkably similar to Rapace’s interpretation of the character, but rumour has it that several changes have been made from the original film, with Lisbeth’s character said to show a slightly more aggressive side. Crikey.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will see Mara star opposite Daniel Craig, and is due to reach UK cinemas on 26th December.

The gap between the last Harry Potter film and the latest, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows seemed like ages. I don’t know about you but before watching it I wanted to reconnect with the previous ones and remind myself what they were all about and give myself a chance to think about where this next one would go. What better way to do this, than on an iPad preloaded with all six of the Harry Potter films? Fortunately a very kind PR company leant us just that.

For someone like myself who isn’t a computer geek, the iPad looks a bit like something from Harry Potter itself. It’s like the photographs in the films which have moving images inside them. It felt like I had a little bit of magic in my hands. For Harry Potter fans this may be an ideal gadget, because not only can you watch films on it but you could load it up with the audio books, the Kindle book and the Lego game.

First impressions were about how light and thin it was – ideal for carrying around. Secondly it’s really easy to use, it kind of reminded of one of those touch toys you give to toddlers. Within three clicks I’m there, with access to all six films. It couldn’t be more convenient.

My only complaint with the iPad would be trying to position it if you are sitting on the sofa or lying in bed. I know you can buy stands for it, so that would definitely be something to invest in.

And the experience of watching the films themselves on the iPad? It was as good, if not better than watching them on a laptop.

Let me give you a brief outline of the movies so far..

1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)

This is when Harry first finds out he is a wizard at the age of eleven from Hagrid the half giant. During the course of the film Harry discovers he is in fact a very famous wizard, because he survived an attack form the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, who killed his parents.

Harry begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and becomes close friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Together they go on the hunt for the Philopher’s Stone which is somewhere in the school.

Watching this film again now,it is pretty amusing seeing how young they all look and there aren’t so many special effects as there are later.

2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry returns to Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione, but they’ve got rather a lot to deal with as The Chamber of Secrets opens, causing everyone to be absolutely petrified. Harry steps in to save the day, which involves finding a mysterious diary and realising he can speak Parseltongue. And it’s the first time we meet the much loved house elf, Dobby.

This second instalment is pretty slow moving, although it’s true to the book it really does drag a bit unless you’re a hard-core fan.

3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Again it starts with Harry returning to Hogwarts. The convicted murderer Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban Prison and Dementors are sent to protect the school. Harry learns more about his past and also what his relationship to Sirius is.

This one really steps up, it is visually stunning, exciting and there’s hints of a darkness that just isn’t present in the first two. It’s also quite amusing and touching at the same time, as Harry comes to terms with who he is.

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

It’s Harry’s fourth year at school already and it’s time for the Triwizard Tournament, which is amazing in the book. Three European schools take part in the tournament and have to compete against each other in deadly tasks. The Goblet of Fire selects the players and for some reason picks four instead of three, the final of whom is Harry.

The films are just getting better. The characters are getting more mature, and there is a great mix of drama, danger and the magic we all really loved from the first films.

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Things turn nasty for Harry, as the Ministry of Magic are in denial that Lord Voldermort has returned. Harry is dealing with Professor Umbridge and his rejection by the other students, while being a big part of the Order of the Phoenix, an organisation fighting against Voldermort.

Again it’s pretty dark but it feels like there might be something missing from this one. It’s as if it’s just rehashing the previous films.

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Voldermort and the Death Eaters will step up their reign of terror this year. Dumbledore and Harry join forces to find a way to get rid of the Dark Lord once and for all. Meanwhile Draco Malfoy is trying to carry out a task that Voldermort has given him.

The sixth film has a much more mature feel to it, there is even romance in it. It looks great, but goes on a bit.
