The film, which will be directed by the king of period films, Joe Wright, will be an adaptation of the famous Tolstoy epic. It has been adapted for the big screen by Tom Stoppard.

We’re thinking Law will be playing the main role of the doomed lover Count Vronsky, which leaves Johnson the part of Levin, a farmer with a pretty small role. What do you think?

We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out as we’re hoping Wright will make key announcements while doing press for his new film Hanna.

Hanna is a not a period drama, but an action thriller starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana. It tells the story of a 16-year-old who is raised by her father to be a ruthless assassin and gets sent on a mission across Europe, where she is tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives. Sounds good, no? If not a little Kick-Ass esque.

Hanna will be out in UK cinema’s on May 6. Shooting for Anna Karenina starts this autumn.

The trailer for Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, has arrived online!

This action thriller comes from the director of Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, Joe Wright. However, in Hanna he’s ditched Keira Knightly as his favourite leading lady, and cast up-and-coming Irish actress Saoirse Ronan in the title role.

Ronan is virtually unrecognisable since we last saw her as the spindly Susie Salmon in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lovely Bones. Hanna sees her take on the role of an ex-CIA agent’s daughter, who is brought up to possess the skills of a lethal assassin. As she goes solo on the greatest mission of her life, she begins to build a relationships with a French family, who offer the allure of a more conventional lifestyle.

Also, barely recognisable, is Cate Blanchett playing fierce red-headed intelligence worker Marissa Wiegler. They’re also joined by ex-Incredible Hulk, Eric Bana, who is also reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Aside from what looks to be great performances from all three, this film will also boast a soundtrack scored by none other than the Chemical Brothers. With both Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men, Harry Potter) having previously shown interest in directing before Wright signed on, we suspect there might be a rather good script too!

Hanna is due to be released in UK cinemas on 8th April 2011 – but for now you can check out the trailer below!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter seems set to be one of the most hotly-anticipated adaptations in the last few years, and it seems Eric Bana is rather keen on getting involved.

With the other Abraham Lincoln film (a serious one this time, honest) starring Daniel Day Lewis (Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood) and directed by Steven Spielberg in the works, you can only hope that both films release around the same time for the social experiment that will form as a result: do you choose history, or hysterics?

Personally, we’re all for history, and vampire hunters. It’s a tough one, folks. But the interest of Bana (Munich, Black Hawk Down, Troy, Hulk) is definitely a big plus for the rather odd take on the great President’s life and times. Although his role isn’t confirmed yet, he’s meeting with director Timur Bekmambetov and he’s really going to go for it.

Some have pointed out the actor and the former POTUS‘ height matches – 6′ 3″ and 6′ 4″ respectively – but it’s worth suggesting that height is little object in today’s film industry. CGI helps, and the fact that Andrew Garfield, well into six foot, is playing the famously tiny Spider-Man only serves to reinforce this. More news as it comes on the big man wanting to play the big man – we live in hope!

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mark Ruffalo. Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry…

As with all Comic-Con news, it’s been met with rapturous applause and scathing hardcore-fan cynicism that Mark Ruffalo, actor of Zodiac and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame, will be donning the muscles and green skin.

As part of the upcoming Avengers, he will play Dr. Bruce Banner, also known as The Incredible Hulk.

The Hulk, like Spiderman, is a figure of pop-culture. We know that when innocent scientist Bruce Banner gets riled, the torn purple shorts and tank-throwing are just around the corner.

Recent efforts, such as Eric Bana and Edward Norton’s versions of the character, didn’t do too well at the box office, despite Marvel expecting otherwise.

However, with the A-list festival of big names that is The Avengers rapidly approaching, roles such as Captain America, the Hulk and Thor needed to be filled, and of course they’ll all be getting their own separate cinematic adventures.

Cue many fans waiting in rapture for an “Marvel meets DC universe” in which every A-list actor and actress in the next ten years will star as some superhero or other.

Interestingly, there was a rather amusing rumour flitting about, pertaining to Ant-Man being played by none other than Nathan ‘Malcolm Reynolds’ Fillion himself. Shame it’s not true.

I’d pay double to see that one – though if it’s in 3D, I would be anyway! Zing.

Possibly inspired by the successful reboot of the James Bond franchise, J.J. Abrams was tasked with making Star Trek cool again. It was never going to be an easy mission, but if the guy behind Lost can’t make extra-terrestrials seem plausible, there’s not that many who can…
Since the film acts as a prequel, one of Abrams’ first challenges was recruiting a new crew of actors to play characters who are now instantly recognisable. It’s therefore goodbye to oldie William Shatner and hello to relative newcomer Chris Pine, who might make the same impact on the film’s female audience that Daniel Craig did in Bond. Meanwhile, the part of half-human, half-Vulcan, bowl-haired Mr Spock has gone to Zachary Quinto – a guy who’s previously demonstrated his alien powers in TV series Heroes.

Much of the action takes place aboard the ominous interstellar cruiser, where the future captain of the starship Enterprise is still a young cadet. He’s not the only thing fresh and new though… Gone are the boxy stun guns and spray-painted toys. The $150 million budget has instead bought sleeker weaponry and costumes, not to mention the effects, which make the old ‘beam me up’ sequences seem like the work of kindergarten.

After a succession of disappointing TV spin-offs and features, this reboot might not only make fans proud to call themselves ‘Trekkies’ once more, but also bring a whole new audience.
