Yup, you guessed it, daughter and ‘Whip Your Hair’ singer, Willow. Smith’s company Overbrook Entertainment are thought to be taking it on and Jay Z may be working on the music.

The Smith family are no strangers to Jay Z after he signed the ten-year-old Willow to his record label Roc Nation and worked on her hit single.

Will likes to keep it in the family, his company produced the remake of Karate Kid, which saw his son Jaden take the lead last summer. Jaden also starred alongside his dad in The Pursuit of Happyness. Willow has also been on the big screen before, having a small part in I am Legend, also with daddy.

Not much is known about the film at this stage. It will be interesting to see if it will stick to the original script or get a modern revamp, and what about the songs? Jay Z has already sampled the Annie tune ‘Hard Knock Life’ in the past, so will more of the original songs feature in the film?

For those of you who don’t know, Annie is the story of a young orphan girl called Annie, who has a life full of adventures as she looks for a family to adopt her and take her away from the orphanage. The story, based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, has been made into a musical and has already had the film treatment twice. The first in 1982 starred Aileen Quinn, while Alicia Morton took on the red-head role for Disney’s 1999 version.
