This week, Brad Pitt formally announced he sees himself quitting the acting industry when he reaches the age of fifty. The 47-year-old Hollywood star has been acting for 24 years, but now he feels like it is time to move on. This must have put a downer on the Australian interview show, 60 minutes, on which Pitt was promoting his new film, Moneyball.
After making the comment, he was reported saying, ‘I’m really enjoying the production side and getting stories to the plate that may have had a harder time otherwise’. The Hollywood heartthrob implied that one of the reasons for cutting his career short was to spend more time with his six children.
He believes that since becoming a father, his perspective on life has changed. He said, ‘If I’m choosing a film now I want it to be, maybe, less immature than things I’ve done in the past. I’m very conscious that they’re going to see it as adults. I want it to mean something to them. I want them to think: ‘Dad’s all right’. It changes everything.’

Pitt doesn’t seem afraid of those dreaded grey hairs intruding in his famous golden locks and claimed, ‘I like ageing. With age comes wisdom and I have said it before and I say it again, I will take wisdom over youth any day. ‘

Luckily for his fans, he has signed up for Happy Feet 2, World War Z and Cogan’s Trade, which are to be released next year. So before he disappears completely, let’s get the lowdown of Brad Pitt’s top five films over his career.

1. Troy – This epic Trojan war story has a star-studded cast, seeing Brad Pitt act alongside Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana. Directed by Wolfgang Peterson, the powerful war film was nominated for the Academy Award for Costume Design. It also took in a staggering $497,409,852 in the box office.

Pitt plays the legendary warrior, Achilles, whose mission was to lead troops into Troy to recapture his wife, Helen (Diane Kruger), who was kidnapped and taken to Troy by Paris (Orlando Bloom) who fell in love with her. The film is full of authentic and bloody fight scenes. Every swing and smash of the sword makes your heart skip a beat. Surely Brad Pitt’s most epic and powerful performance.

2. Oceans 11 (2001) – We see Mr. Pitt take on a smooth master criminal in this clever remake of the 1960 Rat-Pack original. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this comedy-crime film features Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon, who together, attempt to pull off one of the greatest robberies of all time. Pitt is the ultimate ‘cool’ character: he lays back in his chair while devising clever plans and smoking cigars, speaking in a low gravelly voice and wearing sleek suits. Could he be any more cool?

3. Inglorious Bastards (2009) – This brutal World War II movie from Quentin Tarantino, sees Brad Pitt play Lietenant Aldo Raine, who recruits a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to go behind enemy lines and frighten German serviceman. When he demands they bring back Nazi scalps, the film doesn’t leave anything to the imagination, right down to the spine-tingling, ripping and peeling sound effects. Despite being serious film, Pitt’s accent is sure to make you smile because takes you a while to get used to his character’s voice.

4. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – This fantasy-drama film is loosely based around F.Scott Fitzgerald’s 1922 short story of the same name. It sees the Hollywood heart-throb age in reverse; he is born an old man and grows up to be a young strapping lad. When he falls in love with Cate Blanchett, we feel his emotional pain, as the love of his life slips away from him, as she grows old and he gets ever younger. They are so deeply in love but they can only be together for a short while. As he grows younger, they re-unite after several years and he dies in her arms as an infant. It is a moving and emotional film.

5. Mr and Mrs Smith – This tongue-in-cheek, action spy film, yet again portrays Brad Pitt rather than being the King of Cool, instead the Secret Agent of Cool. He is a sply who is unaware that his wife also works in the same line of business. When they both receive a mission outline to kill each other, the race is on. It is a light-hearted action movie with some good special effects and of course, we see our man get dirty and sweaty in the fight scenes, making the ladies swoon and the men go green with jealousy.

The name may be bad, but this film definitely does what it says on the tin. A bit like Snakes on a Plane, it doesn’t disappoint with the content – the bosses are definitely horrible, just as there were certainly snakes on the plane.

Other than the truly appalling name, there really isn’t much to love or hate about this run-of-the-mill Friday night comedy. The cast is okay. Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, and the hilarious Colin Farrell who definitely steals the show, are the ruthless employers of the film’s three protagonists. There are moments of pure comedy gold, though they might be few and far between, and the plot is original enough. The idea is that apparently most people will have fantasised about killing their bosses, (hopefully the latest winner of The Apprentice won’t be getting any ideas.)

This being said, as there are thousands of people worldwide struggling with unemployment, many of them may find it hard to sympathise with these disgruntled employees – at least they have jobs. They will feel especially annoyed that the on-screen personas of Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis fruitlessly throw around thousands of pounds worth of kit to eradicate their bosses, while they themselves are wedged in cramped cinemas, clutching their discount tickets and a bag of Sainsbury’s own-brand onion rings, ahh the high life.

This film is yet another example of the Seth Rogen legacy – awkward, self-conscious comedy interspersed with high-octane car chases and lots and lots of drugs. Although hilarious in places, it may struggle to hold your attention for the whole 98 minutes. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself wondering what you’ll be having for tea when you get home and if you locked the front door… only to be snapped out of it by images of a very foxy looking Ms Aniston.

Horrible Bosses okay, but it’s definitely nothing to write home, or even anonymously to your boss, about. One thing’s for sure, if you do have a job, you’ll be a lot more appreciative of your boss come Monday morning.

The Arrested Development star has worked with Vaughn a number of times and if he signs up to this, the pair will be playing best friends whose friendship is tested when Vaughn’s daughter falls for Bateman’s son and ends up pregnant.

Bateman is quite used to playing a parent and dealing with pregnancy. He famously played Michael Cera’s father in Arrested Development and he also plays a dad of three in The Change Up, which is out later this year. In Juno his character struck up a friendship and tried to seduce a young pregnant girl whose child he and his wife were going to adopt. But now he’ll be playing a grandfather, admittedly it’s a young one, but is this really the age range Vaughn and Bateman have reached now?

Jeremy Garelick will be putting on the director’s hat for the first time, however this will be the second film he has written. He wrote The Break-Up which saw Vaughn in the lead and Bateman in a smaller role. The film mostly received negative reviews but hit the headlines as it was the beginning of a short-lived romance between Vaughn and his leading lady Jennifer Aniston.

If Bateman definitely signs up then shooting is planned to start at the end of this year. And finally we don’t want to go on about Arrested Development but Bateman recently spoke about how keen he was to see it brought to the big screen, he said:

“As far as I know, [creator] Mitchell Hurwitz is working on the script and he wants to start shooting at some point this year. So while I haven’t heard anything new, I haven’t heard anything that would contradict that.

“The show was a career-saver for me. And also happened to be the job I’m most proud of, so of course I would want to jump back in there again.”

Now, that is something we are looking forward to.

Producer Graham King, the man behind The Town and The Departed has confirmed he will be taking on the project. He has bought the rights from Square Enix, the games company who own the hugely popular computer game the films are based on.

You’ll remember that there has already been two Tomb Raider films from Paramount, with Angelina Jolie playing the inflatable-bosomed action hero. There is no talk of Jolie returning for this film.

The film is to be funded by JK Films, who actually financed Jolie’s latest outing in The Tourist. It has been reported that the film will be out within the next two years and that it “will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.”

The last Tomb Raider film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life was released in 2003. In 2009 Warner Bros and producer Dan Lin seriously considered making a new version of the film, which failed after the studio sold its stake in the games publisher Eidos to Sqaure Enix.

We’re wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing another version of the computer game, is the idea not a little dated now?

The original was released back in 2004, and featured Love Me If You Dare‘s Guillaume Canet as Gustave Klopp, who suffers from narcolepsy. Whilst asleep, he dreams of comic book action heroes,  giving rise to a sneaky cameo from Jean-Claude Van Damme.

After an attack on Klopp’s life, he finds himself cured of his condition, but finds it more convenient to continue to nod off uncontrollably. In doing so, he discovers various secrets harboured by his friends and family.

Clay Tarver, whose writing credits include the 2001 horror-thriller Joy Ride, is reported to be working on the script for the remake, which will be come via Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison. However, the project is currently still awaiting a director.

Meanwhile, Sandler is also reported to have been offered a role in $40,000 Man, which tells the story of an astronaut who is badly injured and given the bionic treatment, but on a bit of a measly budget. It may not sound like the most convincing plot, but the script made it on to Hollywood’s Black List of the best unproduced screenplays, so it can’t be too bad…right?

You can also catch Sandler next February, when romantic comedy Just Go With It is released, which will see him star opposite Jennifer Aniston.

We can only hope he’ll have more success with these films than he found with this year’s unpopular buddy-comedy, Grown Ups, which was also produced by Happy Madison. Fingers crossed!

At centre stage was the star of the film Angelina Jolie, who smouldered in a white cashmere Versace gown and her trademark smokey eyes.

Apart from all the adoring fans there was one man in particular, her partner Brad, who could not take his eyes off her.

The pair seemed unruffled by comments made over the weekend by comedian and close friend to Jennifer Aniston, Chelsea Handler, during a stand up performance.

“She’s a homewrecker, she is,” said Handler. “She can rescue as many babies from as many countries as she wants to.

“I don’t f***ing believe you. She gives interviews, “I don’t have a lot of female friends.” Because you’re a f***ing c*** ,” she continued.

“You’re a f***ing b***h!”

Jolie’s co-star Johnny Depp also attended the première and was his usual dapper self, sporting a three-piece pinstripe suit.

Brit actor Paul Bettany, who also stars in the film as an FBI agent walked the red carpet with wife and actress Jennifer Connelly.

The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer and is directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who directed The Lives of Others.

It tells the story of an American tourist (Depp) on holiday in Europe who is used by an Englishwoman, played by Jolie, to pin a crime on a man she once had an affair with.

That just so happens to be the Labor Day weekend, which usually means the big bucks.

It is thought that the movie, which Drew stars in with her on/off boyfriend Justin Long, has been pushed back so it doesn’t have to compete with some films coming out the week before, such as Jennifer Aniston’s film The Switch.

Slightly late notice don’t you think? And will it make any difference and save the film from being a flop?

The actress, who is known to be rather unlucky in love, plays a 40-year-old woman, Kassie, who turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Her best friend Wally (Jason Bateman) is not too happy about it, particularly because she has chosen a handsome sperm donor Roland (Patrick Wilson) over him.

At an ‘insemination party’, Wally gets drunk and accidently spills Roland’s sperm, which leaves him with one choice – to fill it up himself.

Seven years later when Kassie is reunited with Wally, it is clear how similar her child is to Wally but if you want to know if they pair get together you’ll have to watch the movie. It all sounds quite similar to her previous rom coms, doesn’t it? But it is the artificial insemination that gives it a twist.

Jennifer has been doing the rounds recently talking about the movie and her own perception on love and babies.

“Women are realising it more and more – knowing that they don’t have to settle with a man just to have that child,” Aniston said.

“Times have changed and what is amazing is that we do have so many options these days, as opposed to our parents’ days when you can’t have children because you have waited too long.”

Is this her way of telling us that she may do the same as her character in the film? Either way what do you think, will you be watching The Switch?

The Switch will be in UK cinemas from September 1st 2010.
