Everyone’s favourite young, adventurous reporter is back in the new film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. The long-awaited film has been out in the UK for almost two weeks now, and it is holding its own against other big releases.

Steven Spielberg’s film launched itself, rather like our young hero is prone to do, right to the top of the UK and Ireland Box Office Chart after its first weekend of release and seems to be holding on to this spot. Starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Jane Eyre) as Tintin, the story follows our hero and Captain Haddock, played by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, King Kong) on a good old treasure hunt. Daniel Craig (James Bond) plays mysterious criminal Ivanovich Sakharine and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) plays Inspector Thompson.

Tintin has been facing competition from Justin Timberlake’s new thriller In Time. However, it has still managed to pull in £2.2 million after only having been out since October 26th, with In Time making £1.9 million so far. There are others vying for the top spot as well, with Ben Stiller’s Tower Heist coming in at number three in the charts and Rowan Atkinson’s bumbling Johnny English Reborn spying his way to number four.

Produced by Peter Jackson, there is no doubt that Tintin is used to battling it out. However the ratings go in the next few weeks, the little animated adventurer is sure to put up a good fight. We’ll keep you posted!

The first trailer for The Help, starring Emma Stone, has arrived online!

This film tells the story of the 2009 novel of the same name by author Kathryn Stockett. Set in 1960 Jackson, Mississippi, Stone stars as a budding writer (Skeeter) who returns to her hometown after finishing college. However, she’s shocked way in which black maids are being treated within the local community, and decides to write an exposé from the perspective of ‘the help’.

Stone is joined by the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Octavia Spencer (Dinner For Schmucks) and Viola Davis (Doubt), in what promises to be a touching tale of the struggle for racial equality in 1960s Southern America.

The Help is also the directorial début of Tate Taylor, and has been scored by Oscar-nominee Thomas Newman – the man behind films such as The Shawshank Redemption and American Beauty.

Despite the hard-hitting subject matter, Stone looks like she’ll be as watchable in this as she has been in her more light-hearted films of late, such as Easy A. She’s also finished filming for upcoming comedy Friends with Benefits, in which she stars alongside Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

You can also catch Stone later this year, when she’ll appear along with the likes of Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Julianne Moore in Crazy, Stupid, Love, before taking on the iconic role of Gwen Stacy in 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Help is yet to be given a UK release date, but hits the US this August – check out the trailer below:

If I was one of the many actors, directors and other film-industry talents who wasn’t even considered for an Academy Award this year despite my film being all over the rest of the list, I’d be upset. But who are they?

There’s a lot of debate on the topic at present, so soon after the awards ceremony itself, even in The Guardian – in the Friday edition the paper asked “The Academy: Who Calls the Shots?” Apparently, Dakota Fanning, but not Woody Allen. Rupert Murdoch, but not George Lucas. That’s reassuring.

Well, let’s take a look at a few people who got royally stuffed:

Andrew Garfield for his absolutely incredible acting in The Social Network. Playing Facebook co-founded Eduardo Saverin, he is without a doubt the unsung hero of the piece. And where’s his Supporting Actor nomination? Nowhere. Justin Timberlake‘s? Nowhere. Not good.

Christopher Nolan. Seriously, guys, really? Inception is all over the list! Apparently, a cosy drama about yet another king with issues is grounds for a board-sweep, but not one of the most visually creative and imaginative directors of the year, for a film he even wrote? Ouch.

Mark Whalberg‘s probably not thrilled, either, given he was the lead in The Fighter, and both supporting actors (Christian Bale and Melissa Leo) got Oscars for their work. Then again, lets be honest – Mark Whalberg just tends to play Mark Whalberg.

And lets not forget the cast members in Black Swan, Mila Kunis as evil rival ballerina Lily and Barbara Hershey as the hauntingly vicarious mother of Nina, played by the now Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman.

Bit of a sting-fest for all involved, but better luck next year, right? Hopefully there won’t be a Queen’s Dialogue or Princesses’ Twitter Feed to usurp all the truly original stuff. Agree? Disagree? Debate, people! Debate!

The trailer has been released for Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake.

That’s right, this ex-couple have teamed up to make a film – playing to their acting strengths with a quirky comedy. Diaz, who we last saw fighting crime in Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet, plays a money-grabbing , marijuana-smoking, foul-mouthed teacher, who makes a bee-line for the clean-cut and wealthy substitute teacher, played by none other than the Trousersnake himself.

Joining the school faculty is Forgetting Sarah Marshall’s Jason Segal, who takes on the job of a gym teacher, as well as Dinner for Schmucks star Lucy Punch, playing Diaz’s rival for the sub’s affections. Phyllis Smith, who is best know for her role as Phyllis Lapin-Vance in the US version of The Office, can also be seen teaming up with Diaz in what looks to be a well-matched comedy pairing.

Of course, it’s not long since JT was last on our screens, having been nominated for various awards for his role in the critically acclaimed The Social Network. He also stars in another upcoming comedy, Friends with Benefits, opposite Black Swan’s Mila Kunis.
Bad Teacher is scripted by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky – the names behind the 2009 comedy, Year One, which starred Jack Black and Michael Cera, as well as a number of episodes of The Office in the US. Judd Apatow’s right-hand man, Jake Kasdan, is directing.

It might look like another case of Diaz playing a bad-girl-turned-good (A Life Less Ordinary, In Her Shoes etc), but there should be a fair few laughs to be had out of this ridiculous premise and star-studded cast.

Awards season is now really in full swing but we have to say it’s all rather predictable isn’t it?

Last night the Bafta’s took place at London’s Royal Opera House and surprise surprise The King’s Speech came out on top. The film scooped seven awards in total, including Leading Actor for Colin Firth, Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush and Supporting Actress for Helena Bonham Carter. It also took away the prestigious Best Film award.

This is the second year in a row that Firth has won the Leading Actor Bafta, last year it was for his role in Tom Ford’s A Single Man. Firth has already collected a number of awards this season and all that’s left now is the Oscars, do you think he’ll take home the big one?

The Best Actress Award went to Natalie Portman for Black Swan, again no surprises there really. Portman was unable to attend due to being heavily pregnant, which as director, Darren Aronofsky, pointed out as he collected her award, is because she got ‘knocked up’ while making the film.

Other favourite for awards season, The Social Network, didn’t go away empty handed, David Fincher won the Director award. Aaron Sorkin took home the BAFTA for Adapted Screenplay and the film also won the Editing award.

The event was hosted by Jonathan Ross and had it’s fair share of cringe-worthy moments like always. This year the prize for biggest mess-up has to go to Rosamund Pike. Firstly she struggled to read the auto cue and then the former Bond Girl began to open the envelope for Best Original Screenplay before the nominees had been announced. Ross had to run on stage to stop her, much to the embarrassment of her co-presenter Dominic Cooper. Woops!

Other awards went to Alice in Wonderland for Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. Toy Story 3 took home the award for Animated Film. True Grit won for Cinematography. The Best Film Not in the English Language BAFTA went to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer went to Chris Morris for his début feature film Four Lions. The Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, which is voted for by the public went to Tom Hardy (Bronson, Inception).

The highest accolade, the Fellowship, went to Christopher Lee, and the Harry Potter films finally got some recognition and received an award for Outstanding Contribution. Ahh, it’s good to be British isn’t it?

The award-winning team behind The Social Network are set to reunite for Sex On The Moon.

Scott Rudin, Michael DeLuca and Dana Brunetti – the team behind everyone’s favourite Facebook film – have signed on to produce a film adaptation of Ben Mezrich‘s upcoming book, Sex On The Moon: The Amazing Story Behind The Most Audacious Heist In History. Kevin Spacey is also set to return as the film’s executive producer.

The book isn’t due to be published until the summer, but Sony Pictures have already picked up the rights to turn it into a movie. Despite the fact that the film is yet to be cast, it is already creating a buzz amongst film fans – largely due to the fact that Mezrich’s last book, The Accidental Billionaires, was the basis for The Social Network, which picked up awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score at this year’s Golden Globes.

Sex On The Moon is a rather different kettle fish, albeit another tale based on a true story. The book focuses on 25-year-old NASA employee Thad Roberts, who constructed a master plan to steal moon rocks kept in a NASA vault, all in an attempt to impress his girl friend. It’s sort of sweet. Sort of.

Sex On The Moon will be third book from Mezrich to be turned into a film, since the 2008 blackjack-based drama, 21, was based on his book, Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions.

Will Jesse Eisenberg also make a return to star in the film? Or perhaps even Justin Timberlake? We can’t wait to find out!

You can read the full story called Sheer Lunacy at LA Times.

The much-praised film centring on the history of Facebook has already started reaping the awards sown by David Fincher and team’s hard work.

The Social Network, which was made on a modest $50m budget and took $22m in its opening weekend, going on to gross $187m worldwide during its run in cinemas, has done rather well indeed.

The film, documenting Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to power as Lord of Facebook, was also tipped for an eye-popping 32 awards. Not too shabby, and a nice reward for a film that piqued the curiosity of more than just the 500 million people using Facebook already.

It’s now won thirteen of those awards, and that’s not counting the four it nabbed this weekend. To give you a solid list of what it’s pulled in so far:

Boston Society of Film Critics: Best Film, Best Actor (Jessie Eisenberg), Best Director (David Fincher), Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), Best Use of Music in a Film (Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross).

Hollywood Film Festival: Ensemble of the Year (Denise Grayson, Joseph Mazzello, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Dakota Johnson, John Getz, Josh Pence, Jesse Eisenberg, Armie Hammer, Rooney Mara, Max Minghella, Brenda Song, Justin Timberlake).

National Board of Review, USA: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Eisenberg), Best Screenplay – Adapted.

Washington DC Area Film Critics Association Awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Eisenberg), Best Supporting Actor (Garfield), Best Acting Ensemble.

And the four it nabbed at the National Society of Film Critics, USA: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Jessie Eisenberg).

Not to mention it’s also up for six Golden Globes. A modern classic, some might say – a damn lucky cast, says TFR! More on this as it goes.

Shocking news – filming for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Now has come to a grinding halt as Justin Timberlake hurts his leg!

The Social Network star has been seen sporting a pair of crutches since suffering an injury to his left calf whilst on the set of the film. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Mr. Trousersnake said, “I wish I had a way better story about how I got into this Bruce Lee, kung-fu fight with someone and ‘you should see the other guy,’ but unfortunately I did it to myself.”

The Lovestoned singer, who also stars in the upcoming rom-com Friends with Benefits with Mila Kunis, had been busy shooting the latest film from Andrew Niccol, whose directing credits include sci fi hit Gattaca and the hard-hitting Lord of War.

Now is set in the future, where people no longer age, but are required to pay to stay alive in order to avoid overpopulation. Timberlake plays a man who inherits a fortune, but is then accused of the murder of his benefactor, and is forced to go on the run from a corrupt police force known as the ‘time keepers’.

He’ll star alongside Amanda Seyfried, who is also appearing the upcoming horror flick, Red Riding Hood, as well as The Edge of Love‘s Cillian Murphy and Beastly‘s Alex Pettyfer.

Now was scheduled for a 2011 release, but it has been confirmed that the production will be suspended while Timberlake recovers. We can’t wait to see JT bring ‘sexy back’ to the big screen, so we hope he gets better soon. We’ll keep you posted!

The trailer has been released for Will Gluck’s latest film, Friends with Benefits, starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

This film is a less-than-conventional love story of two friends who find they are far too busy to date, but agree to have a casual sexual relationship together. However, rather predictably, things get complicated when they begin to realise they’re more emotionally involved than planned.

Timberlake’s squeaky-clean pop star image might be long gone, he’s certainly looking to bring Sexy Back in this raunchy rom-com. It’s also a fairly different role for Kunis, who we last saw playing a ballerina in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.

Friends with Benefits is directed by Easy A‘s Will Gluck, and features some of the same cast members, such as Emma Stone and Patricia Clarkson. Film veteran Richard Jenkins will also star, along with The Lonely Island‘s Andy Samburg and One Tree Hill‘s Bryan Greenberg. Jason Segel and Rashida Jones also have cameo roles in the film.

Friends with Benefits isn’t due to reach UK cinemas until 19th August, but you can check out the trailer below. Or, if you can’t wait that long, there’s always Ivan Reitman’s No Strings Attached – which looks like pretty much exactly the same film – starring Ashton Kutcher opposite Natalie Portman, which will be released on February 11th.
