Yep, whether you like it or not, Ms Lohan has bagged her first major leading role for a while. She is to portray the iconic actress herself in an account of Liz’s relationship with Richard Burton. Megan Fox was thought to be in the running too, before the confirmation came this week.

Lindsay hasn’t been seen a lot lately. Her last major role was in 2009′s TV comedy Labor Pains, made after a turbulent few years in the spotlight had given her a bad reputation.

She’s a long way away from the girl we first fell in love with in the remake of The Parent Trap, that’s for sure. And as for her star-making role in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls … well, the only way was down apparently. Even as her fellow co-stars Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams rose to the top.

Still, she looks like she’s on the right track to kick-start her career again. Speaking about the casting, Lindsay said:

“I am very honoured to have been asked to play this role.”

It’s a shame the film will most likely not hit the big screen. It has been commissioned by the Lifetime network, one whose speciality is female-oriented TV dramas.

There isn’t a director on board yet, but the script has been written by Brit Chris Monger.

However, it’s not just modern-day stars who are guilty of warring in the public eye. A number of Hollywood’s most famous feuds have spanned many generations. This year sees the age-old feud between Citizen Kane director, Orson Welles, and old-school media mogul, William Randolph Hearst, finally put to bed with a screening of the film at his former home, Hearst Castle in California.

With this in mind, we decided to take a look at some of the other famous feuds in Hollywood history…

For some time, Lohan has been considered the frontrunner for the much-coveted role. However, speaking with E!News, it seems that the executive producer of the upcoming Lifetime film, Larry Thompson, has revealed that Transformers actress could also be lined up for the role of the Hollywood star. Thompson stated that he had been “talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox”.

As one of the most famous film stars that ever lived, the role of Taylor, who died in March last year, is certainly a prestigious one. The Cleopatra star was placed seventh on the American Film Institute’s list of the ‘Greatest American Screen Legends’, and is often credited as having played a role in triggering the sexual revolution of the 1960s. With Taylor having won two Oscars and appearing in a huge number of classic films, including eleven in which she starred alongside husband Richard Burton, it is certainly questionable as to whether or not either Lohan or Fox is truly deserving of such a role.

Whilst Lohan could certainly be seen to have a physical resemblance to the screen legend, as well as the background as a child actress with addiction issues, it seems that her ongoing probation status could be what’s standing in the way of her nabbing the role.

Perhaps someone with slightly more serious screen credentials might be more appropriate choice to play Taylor – both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angelina Jolie have been mooted for the role in the past. However, following her success in embodying iconic Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis’ My Week with Marilyn, perhaps Michelle Williams might be prepared to shed her blonde-bombshell style in order to work her magic in Liz and Dick.

Current hipster darling, Zooey Deschanel, could also be seen as having the potential to create Taylor’s recognisable image, although at 32 she is a little older than Lohan and Fox, who are both age 25. On the other hand, Emma Stone’s critically acclaimed performance in The Help would perhaps give her a certain credibility in taking on such as notable role.

Lifetime plan to start shooting Liz and Dick in Spring, so we’re unlikely to have to wait long to find out who will finally be cast as Taylor. Perhaps those who don’t make the cut might be considered for the same role in the film adaptation of Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger’s Taylor biography, Furious Love, which Martin Scorsese was rumoured to be interested in directing for Paramount last summer.

The troubled actress has reportedly had difficulty keeping her career afloat since being charged with driving under the influence and spending several stints in rehab.

However, it seems she could be set to take on her biggest role in some time, playing the part of actress Sharon Tate – the murdered wife of Rosemary’s Baby director, Roman Polanski. Tate was eight months pregnant when she was attacked and murdered in her home by a number of Manson’s followers, in 1969.

The role comes as part of a film titled Eyes of a Dream, which tells the true story of cult leader Charles Manson, who instructed his followers to carry out a number of murders during the late 1960s. Celebrity photographer, Tyler Shields, who has some prior experience of working with Lohan, has reportedly signed on to direct the film. There’s also a chance that he will star in the controversial role of Manson himself.

Meanwhile, the film looks set to be produced by Brad Wyman, who is best known for his work on the 2003 film, Monster, starring Charlize Theron. He’s also got a bit of experience when it comes to working with troubled celebrities, having produced the webcast Sheen’s Korner, hosted by Charlie Sheen.

Lohan was previously set to play another troubled icon, porn star Linda Lovelace in upcoming film, Inferno, but was replaced by Malin Åkerman after reports that her temperamental behaviour had made her impossible to insure.

Filming for Eyes of a Dream is scheduled to begin on 15th July this year – let’s hope Lohan’s still attached come summer!

We’ll start with the Oscars, which lets be honest, have been hugely predictable. You guessed it, The King’s Speech took away a fair few nominations, 12 in fact, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

True Grit, which hasn’t had quite the hype as The King’s Speech, came in just behind with 10 nominations. The big films of the summer, Inception and The Social Network, took eight, with The Fighter and 127 Hours just behind with six. Perhaps surprisingly Aronofsky‘s Black Swan only got five nominations, as did Winter’s Bone and Toy Story 3.

The only real surprise has been that Christopher Nolan didn’t receive a nomination for Best Director for Inception. To be fair though he would have been up against some pretty strong candidates David O. Russell, Darren Aronofsky, Tom Hooper, the Coen Brothers and David Fincher.

And now to the Razzies, more formally known as the Golden Raspberry Awards. Fortunately for Lindsay Lohan, it seems a spell in rehab has paid off in some way – she has escaped any nominations this year.

The most unfortunate movies included The Last Airbender, which is nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-use of 3D, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay.

However The Twilight Saga: Eclipse managed to rack up the most nominations, and Sex and the City 2 and Vampires Suck also got decent amounts.

The original Mean Girls came out in 2004 and was directed by Mark Waters. The screenplay was written by Tina Fey, who has become somewhat of a comedy queen in the last few years.

It starred, of course, the then up-and-coming teen star Lindsay Lohan, who has had a highly reported breakdown and been in and out of rehab since. Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams are also in the film and have gone on to do some pretty great things, like Mama Mia for Amanda and The Wedding Crashers for Rachel.

Mean Girls was and still is a breath of fresh air in terms of teen movies. It has all the drama of the classics like Clueless, but with some of the more macabre feel of Heathers.

It tells the story of Cady Heron (Lohan) who moves to America after being brought up by aid worker parents in Africa. She becomes a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school. However things go horribly wrong when she falls for the ex-boyfriend of alpha-Plastic Regina George.

Anyway, Paramount Pictures have decided to release a trailer, god knows why they have waited this long. It’s almost as if it’s to rub it in Lindsay‘s face. Ha! Look at the success you once had! She shouldn’t worry though, as it looks absolutely terrible and verges on being painful to watch. Oh and it’s going straight to DVD, in spring of next year.

We told you back in May that Lohan had been cast as infamous porn actress Lovelace, in a biopic based on Lovelace’s autobiography, Ordeal.

Lovelace was famed for her performance in the ground-breaking 1972 pornographic film, Deep Throat, but went on to become an anti-pornography activist, before being dying as the result of car accident in 2002.

Writer and director Matthew Wilder originally cast Lohan in the lead role, and stated that he was not planning to replace her as her ongoing battle with addiction began to interfere with her work schedule. However, Wilder has since announced that Lohan is no longer involved with the production, as it was impossible to insure her.

He also announced that rising star Åkerman would replace her in the role. Åkerman has previously starred in both Watchmen and The Proposal, but with Inferno‘s script having made it on to the 2008 Black List (the most liked, but still unproduced screen plays in Hollywood), this starring role could be her big break in the film industry.

Wearing a traditional red ball gown, with a split up the thigh, she walked the red carpet with the film’s male lead Vincent Cassel. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky, who in 2008 won the festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion, for The Wrestler.

This year the jury is headed by Quentin Tarantino and they are expected to view 79 movies over the 11 day festival.

Speaking yesterday, the Kill Bill director said: “I love being on juries. I’ve yet to find it difficult, but I’ve always ended up being with, not like-minded, but passion-minded artists every time I’ve done it.

“I love the idea, what I love about being on the jury is, I love seeing a whole bunch of new movies from all over the world. I have no real idea about what to expect.”

Other films that are showing this year include Machete, staring Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan, and Sophia Coppola‘s Somewhere.

The 67th Edition of the festival will run until September 11th.

So, Jessica Alba stepped up and wowed the crowds instead wearing a stunning black and gold zig zag dress at the Orpheum Theatre in LA.

Machete is the latest movie from Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis and is based on a fake trailer in the Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino film Grindhouse.

The film stars Danny Trejo, as Machete, a renegade former “Mexican Federale”, who roams the cities, towns and streets of Texas looking for work after a shakedown with a drug lord, played by Steven Seagal.

Machete is paid to kill the corrupt senator, Robert De Niro, who is sending hundreds of illegal immigrants out of the coutnry. It turns out he has been set up and after being injured and captured he goes on the run, accompanied by She (Michelle Rodriguez).

Jessica Alba plays Agent Sartana, a persistent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who has to find and capture Machete, who meanwhile has kidnapped the senator’s wife and daughter (Lindsay Lohan).

A chase ensues and Machete gets together a group of illegal immigrants to hunt down those who have double-crossed them. The film is reportedly a very violent B-movie which sees Lohan swimming topless in a waterfall.

Michelle Rodriguez and Danny Trejo also attended the première. Even though Lindsay didn’t make it, her collegues were very complimentary about her.

Director Rodriguez said: “She was awesome – you go by your instinct for somebody that might be right for a part, and she’s so great in the movie.”

And co-star Trejo said: “On the set she was a pro. She’s got a personal life, we all have one, the only problem is with her personal life there’s a camera on her all the time.”

He added: “We’ve talked and she’s going to be alright. She’s got out of rehab, she’s going to be fine.”

Well, well, well, do you think they are telling the truth? And will the film be any good?
