Michael Bay is running with a backstory for the new live-action TMNT flick that turns the eponymous Ninja Turtles into aliens.

Now, here’s the thing – they’ll look the same, act the same, and in fact nothing will change apart from their back-story.

Now, funnily enough, I have a slight problem with this. Turtles are a species that evolved, on Earth, over millions of years. Ninjas have been around for thousands. Neither of these concepts are even remotely possible in outer space. It’s surreal how badly thought-through this was, and given that the original story (they eat radioactive sludge in the sewers, along with their master, Splinter, the rat) at least has some logic to it – it makes sense, as it were – this choice boggles the mind.

I don’t really know what else to tell you. I’m not entirely sure where he’s going to go next. Maybe Shredder will go from being the leader of the Foot Clan to being some kind of global terrorist organisation. Or maybe they’ll bring Optimus Prime in to clean up. Or cast Shia Lebouf in a wig as April! Who knows. Hopefully, no more on this. Ever.

Cowabunga! After being long in the works, the brand new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie finally has a director on board.

If your childhood was not spent watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the 1990s, then frankly you missed out on some epic adventures. A life without Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello? Unimaginable.

After the début of the original TV series in 1987, the first film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released in 1990, and soon became one of the most financially successful independent films ever. Two follow-ups later, and they switched to CGI for 2007s TMNT.

Now they are making their triumphant return to live-action adventuring. A year ago Paramount hired screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec aka the writers of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol to work on the project.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Battle: Los Angeles director, Jonathan Liebesman is in negotiations to take the helm. The choice gives us a good idea of the avenue Paramount want to take the film.

The original TMNT films, did not boast extravagant action scenes, despite the fights being important to the stories. They relied on amusing one liners between moves to keep it entertaining. However with Transformers’ Michael Bay as a producer, and his production company Platinum Dunes putting the project together, the new film is bound to be an action fest, although hopefully not to the extent of the Transformers franchise.

A lot of the genius with the original films was the fact that the action sequences weren’t made for the sake of it. They had a purpose. Let us hope Bay doesn’t over do it, as seems to be his staple. We wouldn’t want the charm we fell in love with to be in short supply.

Do you want to see a brand new movie, or should the classic 90s versions be left well alone?

Michael Bay has announced that he plans to return to the Transformers franchise, in order to direct the fourth installment in the sci-fi action series.

Despite the fact that Michael Bay’s previous Transformers film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, was heavily criticised – for everything from being ugly, to incoherent, to soulless – it seems that the director has been given the opportunity to return for another film. This Monday Bay revealed that he had signed a two-part deal with Paramount to take on two more films, the first of which will be black comedy titled Pain and Gain, starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), followed by a brand new Transformers film.

The decision may also come as a surprise since Bay himself reportedly admitted that Transformers 2 had been ‘crap’ and Megan Fox, the female lead from the first two films, likened working with the director to being like working with Hitler – resulting in her subsequent absence from Dark of the Moon.

However, Bay appears to be keen to give the series something of an overhaul – despite being somewhat vague as to exactly what this might entail. Bay has said that the next film will be “a whole new re-imagining of Transformers,” while producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said “the challenge there is we really are gonna do a reboot, and what that’s gonna be we don’t even know yet.” Riveting stuff, we’re sure…

All this seems particularly baffling in relation to Transformers star Tyrese Gibson’s confident comments last summer, in which he is reported to have said “There are no concepts, no direction, no nothing for Transformers 4, because everyone has been so focused on Transformers: Dark of the Moon. But here is the safety net…There is always Steven Spielberg!… it is a beautiful safety net to know that one of the biggest, most respected directors in the world happens to be an executive producer on Transformers…he could easily step in and direct Transformers 4 if he decided to.” Assuming Spielberg is willing to continue his association with this franchise by reprising his role as executive producer, we can only assume that he has turned down the opportunity to take over as director.

Shia LaBeouf, on the other hand, appears to be rather less tolerant, and is currently standing by his vow not to return to the franchise in his role as the male lead. It is thought that Jason Statham could be lined up as his replacement, meaning that he would star alongside his real-life girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who took over from Fox as the female lead in the last film.

While Bay’s return doesn’t mean that the film won’t be financially successful (Dark of the Moon grossed $1.12 billion worldwide), it may disappoint fans of the original Transformers toys and the cartoons. Many had undoubtedly been hoping that their favourite shape-shifting robots might fare a rather better on-screen fate this time around, especially since Bay was still maintaining that Dark of the Moon would be his final Transformers film this time last year.

Transformers 4 is expected to be released in the summer of 2014 – we’ll keep you posted…

With so many huge egos forced to share the red carpet, it is perhaps unsurprising that clashes of character frequently take place in Hollywood. Bill Murray famously fell out with Lucy Liu on the set of Charlie’s Angels, Megan Fox got herself fired after likening Transformers director, Michael Bay, to Hitler, and Lindsay Lohan’s rumoured to be on bad terms with everyone from Hillary Duff to Paris Hilton.

However, it’s not just modern-day stars who are guilty of warring in the public eye. A number of Hollywood’s most famous feuds have spanned many generations. This year sees the age-old feud between Citizen Kane director, Orson Welles, and old-school media mogul, William Randolph Hearst, finally put to bed with a screening of the film at his former home, Hearst Castle in California.

With this in mind, we decided to take a look at some of the other famous feuds in Hollywood history…

If recent reports are to be believed, Michael Bay will be back to make Transformers 4, despite speaking of the contrary over and over again in the past year.

You’d be forgiven for thinking the Michael Bay era of the Transformers franchise was over considering the amount of times he has shot down the idea of returning. It would appear he has had a change of heart however, or rather, Paramount is offering him a deal he finds difficult to refuse.

According to NY magazine, the director who brought to life three hit Transformers films is in final negotiations with Paramount and a deal is going to be announced very soon. So what’s the catch?

Bay gets a two-picture deal, that’s what. No we don’t mean two more Transformers films so don’t get your hopes up (or whack your head on a chair), as well as making a fourth installment of the blockbuster, Bay will also get to make and release the crime thriller Pain or Gain which he has been focused on since production on Transformers: Dark of the Moon ended.

Seeing as Paramount insist upon churning these out on a conveyor belt it might be worth them turning number four into a prequel, especially now their front man Shia Labeouf has quit. A prequel has been ruled out though.

The first Transformers was released in 2007 and was a box office smash, propelling its stars Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox into the limelight. Fox was fired after the sequel when she made a comment about Michael Bay being ‘like Hitler’ and was replaced by a Brit, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

With the writer of number three, Ehren Kruger working on the plot which will supposedly delve further into the Transformers canon and allow fans to see characters they have been waiting for (Sentinel Prime apparently), it’s sure to be yet another round of blatant objectification and debatably unnecessary explosions. We can hardly wait.

Will Michael Bay sign on the dotted line? Let us know what you think.

As Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has started promoting the latest Transformers film looking glam and every inch the movie star, her predecessor Megan Fox seems like a distant memory.

Cast your mind back to last year when we head that the super foxy, women-of-every-man’s-dream Fox was being replaced in the third Transformers‘ film by British model/actress Huntington-Whiteley. At the time we were lead to believe that Fox had left of her own accord to pursue other film opportunities. Ah that old chestnut.

Well, we’ve finally got the full story. It has been reported that it was in fact the film’s producer Steven Spielberg who had her fired after he read an interview in which she described the director, Michael Bay, as being like Hitler. Spielberg is Jewish and seriously powerful player, and her comments were too much according to Bay:

“You know the Hitler thing? Steven said: ‘Fire her right now.’”

Bay insists that he wasn’t offended by the comment, however he did fire her straight away. It seems that Fox didn’t make too many friends on the film set, you may remember one particular letter posted on Bay’s website which said:

“Michael found this shy, inexperienced girl, plucked her out of total obscurity thus giving her the biggest shot of any young actresses’ life.

“He told everyone around to just trust him on his choice. He granted her the starring role in ‘Transformers’, a franchise that forever changed her life; she became one of the most googled and oogled women on earth. She was famous! She was the next Angelina Jolie, hooray! Wait a minute, two of us worked with Angelina – second thought – she’s no Angelina. You see, Angelina is a professional.

“We know this quite intimately because we’ve had the tedious experience of working with the dumb-as-a-rock Megan Fox on both Transformers movies (sic).”

Not too complementary at all. On the other hand everyone has been singing Huntington-Whiteley’s praises, so we’ll just have to see the film to decide who is better.

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, minus Megan Fox, will reach UK cinemas on June 29 with our very own Huntington-Whiteley.

Awesome, sci-fi fans can rejoice – the gung-ho Transformers director is now attached as a producer to one of the most interesting comic series in recent memories – Zombies vs. Robots.

After all the drama with anime and live-action adaptations, my news sphere has been a little dark and lonely of late. Now it’s not. The madcap action movie man has turned his eye to a tale about two armies locked in combat. One dead, one artificial. Oh, yes.

But why would an army of flesh-eating undead attack a bunch of metalheads? Well, it’s because they’re protecting a little baby girl, who happens to be the only key to the survival of the human race. Figuring out how to babysit while combating the hive-mind menace of the zombie hordes isn’t an easy task, but if anyone can do it, it’s a bunch of robots, right?

The comic, written by Chris Ryall and illustrated by Ashley Wood, has been taken up by comic book fans with happy hearts, and everyone seems to be very keen on the sequel: Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons. Michael Bay’s involvement means a lot of CGI, and probably about fifteen thousand buildings getting wrecked every two minutes.

It’s tough to explain this concept past the fact it’s fairly Snakes on a Plane-esque. So, a completely mental plot, a lot of CGI and some fairly humorously melodramatic performances. Can’t wait.

Leave the cinematic critique to Barry Norman and impress your mates down the pub with this list of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen trivia instead. Megan Fox’s bra-size isn’t the only interesting film stat…

It took seven months to create the 1,000-gallon gasoline bomb used in the Giza Guerilla scene of Revenge of the Fallen – longer than the time taken to shoot the entire film.

Looking for some cinematic references? Michael Bay described the tone of the film as Ben-Hur meets Apocalypse Now.

2007′s Transformers was the fastest selling DVD of the year.

Next month’s release of Revenge of the Fallen coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original Transformers film.

Michael Bay took a 30 per cent pay cut to ensure that the budget would allow for an American production set. Meanwhile, rather than take a salary, Tyrese Gibson actually PAID filmmakers for his role in the film.

According to Industrial Light & Magic studio, if you took all the CGI blocks from all the Transformer models and placed them side to side, they’d reach to the moon and back with enough left over to build the Italy’s Roman Colosseum twice.

The word ‘transformer’ is only used once in the entire film (Ron Witwicky says “looks like they’ve got a blown transformer”).

Michael Bay was rejected from USC’s prestigious film school and starting out directing for Playboy (bagging himself a centrefold girlfriend while he was at it).

Shooting on Revenge of the Fallen started one day after the first film won MTV’s Best Movie Award.

USA Today hosted a poll asking the public who they would like to see in the Revenge of the Fallen. The winner, Soundwave, got 20 per cent of the vote, while Devastator and Grimlock both had 16 percent, Jetfire had 11 per cent and Ultra Magnus and Shockwave tied with 9 per cent.

To ensure the film looked realistic, the US Department of Defense provided its vehicles for use as the alternate modes of the Decepticons Starscream, Bonecrusher and Devastator. It also allowed its F-117, A-10, AC-130, and CV-22 aircrafts to be filmed (being captured on the big screen for the first time) and soldiers to work as extras.

Female Transformer Autobot Arcee was included in the first film’s script but later omitted as writers felt it was too much of a challenge to explain gender variations. This was worked around in Revenge of the Fallen, though, and she does appear.

Transformers holds the record for the biggest opening week of a non-sequel with $152.5 million.
