The Arrested Development star has worked with Vaughn a number of times and if he signs up to this, the pair will be playing best friends whose friendship is tested when Vaughn’s daughter falls for Bateman’s son and ends up pregnant.

Bateman is quite used to playing a parent and dealing with pregnancy. He famously played Michael Cera’s father in Arrested Development and he also plays a dad of three in The Change Up, which is out later this year. In Juno his character struck up a friendship and tried to seduce a young pregnant girl whose child he and his wife were going to adopt. But now he’ll be playing a grandfather, admittedly it’s a young one, but is this really the age range Vaughn and Bateman have reached now?

Jeremy Garelick will be putting on the director’s hat for the first time, however this will be the second film he has written. He wrote The Break-Up which saw Vaughn in the lead and Bateman in a smaller role. The film mostly received negative reviews but hit the headlines as it was the beginning of a short-lived romance between Vaughn and his leading lady Jennifer Aniston.

If Bateman definitely signs up then shooting is planned to start at the end of this year. And finally we don’t want to go on about Arrested Development but Bateman recently spoke about how keen he was to see it brought to the big screen, he said:

“As far as I know, [creator] Mitchell Hurwitz is working on the script and he wants to start shooting at some point this year. So while I haven’t heard anything new, I haven’t heard anything that would contradict that.

“The show was a career-saver for me. And also happened to be the job I’m most proud of, so of course I would want to jump back in there again.”

Now, that is something we are looking forward to.

It’s been a while since there’s been a good body-swap comedy (a year, maybe two), so it’s good news to hear that this one is well and truly on its way – and, this time, it’s one for the guys.

From the writers of The Hangover, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, comes this story of two best friends whose lives have gone in very different directions as they’ve grown older. Bateman plays Dave, a well-paid lawyer who is happily married to his wife Jamie (played by Leslie Mann, who has some experience in these things, having starred in 2009 body-swap, 17 Again).

He’s the envy of his best friend, Mitch (Reynolds), who loves the idea of family life, despite making the most of being young, free and single. Cue body-swapping hilarity, as both learn to be careful just what they wish for (we imagine).

The film also stars Tron: Legacy‘s Olivia Wilde and veteran actor Alan Arkin.

With direction from the man behind Wedding Crashers, David Dobkin, this slightly ridiculous premise might just be one to watch this summer.

Now, before you start ranting about how you’ve not heard his name in connection with any directing gigs and how he’s a minor director who may do a really bad job, let me clear things up. This man is not, as yet, a director. This is his first feature in that role.

However, as many would argue, the fact his special effects credits speak for themselves makes him a viable candidate for the job. X-Men? Check. Daredevil? Check. Scott Pilgrim Vs the World? Check. See? Even Planet of the Apes sits on his CV.

This means one thing – when it comes to the whizz-bang and the fizz-pop of a CGI-laden combat-fest as the Deadpool film is sure to be, you’d rather have someone behind the helm who knows about that stuff. I’ve seen films that could’ve made amazing use of basic CGI that only managed to make it look about as cinematic as Doctor Who (all hateful comments about my dissing of the Doctor in the thread, please), the Twilight saga being a good example, for one. Miller’s not going to go down that route.

We’ve spoken before about the film’s talent looking up, but so far this is the only definite. Well, that and the fervent hope that Ryan Reynolds appears in the final product, as if there is anyone who’s destined to play this role, it’s either him or his doppelganger, Dane Cook. More on this as it comes.

Reynolds, who, incidentally, has just been named as “sexiest man alive” by US magazine, People, stars as Hal Jordan, who is recruited by the Green Lantern Corps.

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Green Lantern is set to tell the story of a brotherhood of warriors who maintain intergalactic order using rings that grant them superpowers. When Hal, an air force test pilot, finds himself as their latest recruit, he has to overcome his fears, with help from childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (played by Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively), in order to save the universe from a new enemy called Parallax.

Mark Strong, who we last saw playing Frank D’amico in Kick-Ass, also features as Green Lantern Sinestro, who becomes Hal’s mentor. Peter Sarsgaard and Tim Robbins also star in this adaptation, Martin Campbell is directing, whose TV drama series, Edge of Darkness, won him the British Academy Television Award for Best Director in 1986.

The studio is reportedly already working on at least one sequel script in the hope that Green Lantern does well, but seeing as comic book fans are notoriously hard to please when it comes to cinematic interpretations, we’ll have to wait to see if it gets the go-ahead.

Reynolds portrayed the cocky, over-confident swagger of everyone’s favourite “merc with a mouth” perfectly, and soon Deadpool could be hitting cinemas if Rodriguez decides to say yes to the part. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the same writing team behind Zombieland, have been hard at work on a script, one that has found its way into the hands of the respected Sin City director. Known for his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino and skill in the chair on horror films (let’s be honest, Deadpool’s life involves him regrowing lost limbs and organs, most days) might mean he’s perfect for the role.

Deadpool’s certainly an interesting protagonist, for several reasons. Firstly, he’s almost completely aware of the fact he’s a character in a comic book, breaking the fourth wall on a regular basis and once commenting on the fact that he thinks in “yellow boxes”. This should make for some Kevin Smith-esque brief glances at the camera. Which should be made all the more comical by the fact that we’ll rarely, if ever, see his face – though this isn’t a loss considering his face isn’t too pretty if they run with the Origins version. He’s also not the most moral of protagonists, but received his powers through a radical treatment for cancer, which may bring up all sorts of interesting issues involving disease and survivalist instinct, though surviving isn’t hard if your arms grow back and you’re a deft hand with a pair of swords.

The script will be an interesting topic of discussion for comic and film fans alike – how to portray a mercenary who commits morally questionable acts whilst doing so because of psychological scarring caused by cancer treatment and abuse at the hands of the prison system being just one of them. Hopefully we’ll see the return of Ryan Reynolds – the cocky, humorous actor put on a ton of muscle for the part and fit the role of a mouthy, funny bloke with more skills than sense perfectly. Keep an eye on this one – this could be Marvel’s final response to the critical antihero success of Hellboy.

As if being Mr Scarlett Johansson wasn’t enough of a good hand, the Canadian actor has beaten his peers to the role of Green Lantern in Warner Brothers’ adaptation of the DC Comics super hero about an intergalactic lawman who’s armed with a green power ring.

With Martin Campbell in line to direct, Green Lantern will undoubtedly put Reynolds in the big league – not that there was any doubt he wasn’t heading in that direction anyway; he has also signed up to reprise his role as Deadpool in a X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off, which means his super heroes might be fighting each other at the box office come 2011.
