An American family goes on holiday to Spain, but the reunion and relaxation go awry when all of them except from Henry Cavill’s character, Will, are kidnapped. Thankfully, Cavill has had to buff up for the new Superman film Man of Steel which is out in 2013, so he’ll be ready and raring to go with this new action-packed project.

And action there will be, with the promise of guns and punches, sprinting and quick thinking to lure you into the cinema. The Cold Light of Day centres around that age-old problem of finding out that your dad is not a business consultant after all, but is actually part of the CIA. Will must use his own fighting instincts to save his family, and in turn to uncover a conspiracy with his father, who is played by Bruce Willis, at the centre.

While The Cold Light Of Day may look like just another action film and one with a plot remarkably similar to Taken, but it boasts a pretty good cast of action pros. Who could forget Bruce Willis in the Die Hard movies? While Henry Cavil has recently proven himself as Theseus in Immortals. Also making appearances will be Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar), Caroline Goodall (Schindler’s List, The Princess Diaries) and Joseph Mawle (Freefall, Game of Thrones).

Last week, we told you about the films which would be screening in-competition at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival 2012. The latest announcement is the list of films which will receive their world premières during the festival.

Although actress/director Julie Delpy’s upcoming Joe Strummer biopic has a been in the news recently, it is her most recent film, 2 Days In New York, which will receive its première at the festival. The film is a sequel to the 2007 romantic drama, 2 Days In Paris, and will star Alexia Landeau opposite Delpy herself.

Another film which is likely to be surrounded by much anticipation is Spike Lee’s latest release, Red Hook Summer – the story of a young boy who spends the summer with his grandfather, despite never having met him before. Also hotly tipped to receive significant attention is Stephen Frears’ thriller, Lay The Favorite, which stars Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rebecca Hall in a story based around beating the Las Vegas sportsbook system.

Another film with a particularly impressive cast is Rodrigo Cortés’ Red Lights – a story of psychic investigation, starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Elizabeth Olsen and Toby Jones.

With the category of documentary premières, audiences at the festival can expect to see Rory Kennedy’s Ethel, which offers a portrait of her mother, and Robert F. Kennedy’s wife, Ethel Kennedy. There will also be a screening of an as yet untitled Paul Simon Project, which sees the musician reunite with the performers of Ladysmith Black Mambazo in South Africa for the 25th anniversary of their collaborations on the album Graceland.

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival will also include a special event: Hit RECord at the Movies with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Gordon-Levitt will host a showcase of works that have been created via the collaborative hitRECord production company. Audiences will also be invited to engage, interact and contribute by using their digital devices during the event, with the finished result being posted online.

Imagine a film with a protagonist who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Not “antihero”, but actually just dislikeable. In Rampart, Harrelson plays Dave Brown, an extremely corrupt cop who indulges in gratuitous violence and a variety of other dodgy dealings that could see him put away for a long time.

It’s not just Dave who’s under suspicion, either – Rampart is named as such because it’s based around the 1990s L.A. police scandal, known as the ‘Rampart scandal’. The Rampart division were part of the LAPD, and over 70 officers were implicated in unprovoked shootings, beatings, evidence tampering, stealing, and other crimes. Dave is one of these men, and despite the family he’s trying to provide for (despite no longer living with them) and the job he’s trying to hang on to (despite being investigated by Kyle (Ice Cube)), it’s hard to like him. And yet, the character is strangely compelling

The rest of the cast list reads like an Oscar-winner. Steve Buscemi, Sigourney Weaver, Ned Beatty – the list goes on, and I can’t wait to see so many talented actors bounce off each other as the chaotic life of Dave Brown plays out around them. Rampart looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to check it out. The trailer’s below, so enjoy!

During the production process of Twilight, Lautner realised he had a choice – bulk up heavily to represent his maturity as a werewolf in New Moon, or walk away from the part. In the space of less than half a year, he’d turned into a muscle machine, something many fans have found to be Jacob’s main drawing point (personally, I just think the idea of a Native American werewolf is pretty damn awesome).

As a result of those muscles, he’s now in Abduction, a thriller about a boy who discovers that the family he’s grown up with are not, in fact, relatives of his, and there are two covert organisations fighting each other to capture him. It’s standard, formulaic stuff, but a good opportunity to hear Lautner talk for thirty seconds without using the words “Bella” or “bloodsucker”.

The trailer’s below, so feel free to enjoy, and no, he’s not topless in it, and shame on you for even asking. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go argue with my fellow TFR writers, as someone just uttered the phrase “team Edward”. The horror.

The pair co-wrote the script, which appeared on the 2008 film-industry-compiled Black List, which includes some of the best un-produced screenplays.

Despite the fact that both Pegg and Frost star in Paul, it will not be included as part of their ‘Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy’ – along with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz – as it is not directed Edgar Wright. However, the pair will be joined by a fairly star-studded cast, including Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch, and Sigourney Weaver, as well as the voice of Seth Rogen.

Pegg and Frost play a pair of geeky sci-fi fans who go on a road trip through America. Whilst visiting Area 51, they unwittingly find themselves joined by Paul, a CGI extra terrestrial who insists on accompanying them on their journey. This, of course, prompts all manner of comedy capers – from avoiding pursuant federal agents to the accidental kidnap of a young woman and a misconstrued plan to return Paul back to his mother ship.

Sigourney Weaver has already described Paul as “a love letter to Comic-Con” – where some of the film is set and where the cast took part in an Q&A session. So, along with those who are already fans of the hilarious Pegg/Frost dynamic, this film is likely to have a large number of sci-fi and comic fans who will be just as excited about its release early next year.

Alicia, who is famous for her role as Cher in Clueless, is currently filming a film about vampires, yes another one, in Detroit.
The film is directed by Amy Heckling, director of Clueless and it tells the story of two young female vampires, played by Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, living in New York. Their immortal existence is jeopardised when they fall in love with humans.

Sigourney Weaver plays the vampire queen and Tod Barry will play her assistant. Wallace Shawn, Dan Stevens, Justin Kirk , comedian Richard Lewis and 3rd Rock From The Sun‘s Kristen Johnson are also in the film.

The film is apparently a romantic comedy, which makes a change from the more moodier vampire films (ahem, Twilight).

Taylor has been filming Abduction in Pennsylvania for most of the summer now, but the Team Jacob fans just keep on coming.

But it’s not just Twihards, it is reported that a town supervisor was taking a photo of Taylor for his daughter when he got into a fight with Taylor’s dad which ended in the police being called.

Abduction tells the story of a young man who wants to find out the truth about his life after he finds a photo of him as a baby on a missing persons’ website.

The film, which is an action thriller, has Taylor riding a motorbike and appearing topless, thank goodness for that.

Sigourney Weaver also stars in the movie, which is directed by John Singleton, who has previously worked on 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Speaking about the film Taylor said: “I love action, but most important is the story. And the story behind this action thriller (Abduction) is amazing.

“We got John Singleton behind us….I’m so thankful we’re getting a cast like that.”

Taylor’s career seems to be going from strength to strength. He was offered a prominent role in X-Men: First Class, but had to turn it down due to his busy schedule filming Abduction and promoting the latest Twilight.

On top of all that, Taylor was named Choice Male Hottie at the Teen Choice Awards, on Sunday night, pipping Robert Pattinson to the post.

“I think they’re trying to create something new completely with the Ghostbusters, although I know Bill [Murray] is in it. I don’t expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well.”

Only original screenplays for Ms Weaver from now on then…

Will Sigourney Weaver be getting the clippers out again though? Watch this space…

“I’d like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let’s revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let’s pass it on to a new generation,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

And who might that new generation be? The aging star announced that he’d love to see an all-girl team of Ghostbusters with Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku leading the way: “I think they’re amazing,” he added, presumably a little misty-eyed.

You might live out your own fantasies with them, Dan, but probably not those of the studio’s…
