Douse yourself in hairspray and dust off your air-guitar – the trailer to the film adaptation of Rock of Ages has finally arrived online. The film is an adaptation of a stage musical that includes classic rock hits from bands such as Journey, Bon Jovi, Queen, Poison and Foreigner, to name but a few.

The upcoming film features a star-studded cast, with Tom Cruise taking on one of the lead roles as rock star, Stacee Jaxx. Set in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of a young girl called Sherrie, who moves to LA with hopes of become an actress. The innocent abroad is played by Julianne Hough – who already has some experience in playing the ‘small-town girl’ following her role in this year’s Footloose remake. She falls for aspiring rocker Drew Boley (Diego Boneta), before being swept off her feet by the smooth-talking Stacee Jaxx.

Meanwhile, the Mayor and his wife, played by Bryan Cranston and Catherine Zeta-Jones are battling to shut down Dennis Dupree’s (Alec Baldwin) legendary rock club, The Bourbon Rooms, and to drive rock n’ roll out of LA. Russell Brand plays Lonny Barnett, narrator of this glam-rock extravaganza, with appearances by everyone from Paul Giamatti and Malin Åkerman, to Mary J. Blige and Anne Hathaway.

The trailer certainly looks like a whirlwind of big hair and leather trousers, as well you might expect from the Hairspray director. But will this musical be able to make a seamless transition from stage to screen? The trailer is already drawing a number of Glee comparisons - not very rock and roll…

Rock of Ages is schedule to hit UK cinemas on 8th June 2012.

Cruise’s menacing expression looks like he is determined and means business, which is exactly the frame of mind we are hoping to see from his fearless character, Agent Hunt.

Ghost Protocol stars the Hollywood heart throb, who (as always) saves the day and gets the girl in this action packed film, which due for a festive December release.

The star-studded cast also includes the likes of Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, Thor) and Paula Patton (Hitch, Mirrors).

When the Mission Impossible Force are blamed for terrorist bombings of the Kremlin, it’s up to Agent Hunt to clear their name, as well as stopping other attacks from happening.

It’s been five years since the last Mission Impossible film, so will Cruise (who is almost 50) be fit and agile enough to perform his own stunts any more?

It has been rumoured that Cruise has taken on some new and adventurous, death-defying stunts for the latest film.

If you’ve watched the trailer, you would have seen Cruise casually making jokes while hanging off the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. We’re guessing he will somehow be able to swing far enough and make it through the window.

There’s only one way to find out and that’s to go and see the film which is released on Boxing Day.

Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton all star alongside Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. In this film, Ethan Hunt and his team are forced to strike out on their own after the agency is blamed for terrorist bombings of the Kremlin. He must clear their name as well as stopping other attacks, just another day in the life of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force, not the International Monetary Fund) operations agent. There are sure to be plenty of explosions and chase-scenes, and after five years of waiting, hopefully this will be enough to satisfy fans of the Mission Impossible franchise.

Tom Cruise is famous for doing his own stunts and there is no exception in this new film. There are said to be a lot of the old stunts and tricks, as well as a few new ones, including Cruise throwing himself out of a car while it is driving fast and scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. As you do. Whether this will be enough to make the film stand out from its predecessors, only time will tell. Either way, fans in the UK will be looking forward to its seasonal release.

You’d think Cruise would want to move on from his role as Ethan Hunt (perhaps to play a bigger part – like Jack Reacher! I’ll stop this soon, don’t worry). But it seems he’s quite happy to immerse himself in science fiction and conspiracy theories for quite a while yet – and that’s before he’s even reached the set.

Mission: Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol kicks off with the destruction of the Russian Kremlin. Now, I think you can safely verify that it’s a rather brash move, and the U.S. government are very keen to pin it on a few people to avoid a war. Those people happen to be Ethan Hunt and his mates, and unless he legs it and exposes the real culprits, things could go south for him and the gang fairly swiftly.

The cast are, aside from Cruise, a mix of old and new faces. One in particular that reassures me that the film will have a sense of humour is the casting of Simon Pegg in the role of Benji Dunn once more, a tech-savvy donor character to Cruise’s protagonist.

Despite the inclusion of the Soggy Bottom Boys in O Brother, Where Art Thou? it’s something of a surprise, and Dave Van Ronk is an interesting subject.

Based in a 1960s Greenwich Village, New York, it presumably follows Van Ronk as he debuts with the music that generated the nickname “Mayor of McDougal Street”. The Greenwich Village street was famous for its artists and creative types, and Van Ronk’s home in particular became a haven for local musicians , including Bob Dylan and Janis Ian.

It’s not clear who will be playing Van Ronk, but given his physical stature (think big), we reckon it’ll be Tom Cruise. What, you didn’t know? Tom Cruise is playing all the big-person roles now. John Goodman is looking at unemployment benefit.

Musical biopics tend to do pretty well, especially when they’re featuring genres we’ve fallen out of touch with, somewhat. Ray, Walk the Line and Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll are all great examples of this. Here at TFR, we certainly look forward to hearing more about the project, so we’ll update you as we find out more.

He will also be joined by Alec Baldwin, who will take on the role of ex-rocker turned nightclub owner, Denis Dupree, as well as Julianne Hough, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta Jones, Malin Ackerman and Russell Brand.

Cruise plays a smooth-talking rock star in a band called Arsenal, and Shankman was reportedly ‘blown away’ with the actor’s impressive singing voice.

Cruise tweeted, “♫POUR SOME SUGAR…♫ rockin the tats and gear as 80′s rocker Stacee Jaxx on the #RockOfAgesMovie set,” along with the picture of himself, sporting long hair and biker boots.

Shooting for Rock of Ages began last month, and the film is currently scheduled for a 2012 release. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the cast will look like – we’ll keep you posted!

The star who has recently gone public about suffering from bipolar is back in action, after a brief stay in rehab, with Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the popular 80s-set musical.

The original musical was created by Chris D’Arienzo and tells the story of a small time girl who comes to LA to follow her dreams, you know how it goes. She meets wannabe rocker Drew and has a fling with a Stacee Jaxx, who as you can probably guess by the name is a pretty ridiculous guy.

The film has already cast most of it’s characters. We reported a while back that Tom Cruise was on board to play Jaxx (yes, it’s going to be cringe). Julianne Hough, the sister of Cheryl Cole’s reported boyfriend, Derek, is playing the small time girl and Diego Gonzalez Boneta is playing her love interest.

But who will Zeta-Jones play? Shankman has added a role especially for her. You may remember her Oscar-winning performance in Chicago, where she proved that she can sing, act and dance, so she’s definitely a good choice for this film.

Talking about the character Zeta-Jones will play, Shankman said:

“She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock ’n’ roll in the great city of Los Angeles.”

Oooh! So, she’s a rock n’ roll badass. Nice. Apart from Cruise and Hugh, the film also features Paul Giamatti,  Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Mary J Blige. Filming starts next month in Miami and we have to say we’re already excited about the outcome.

Director Adam Shankman confirmed on Twitter that the 30 Rock star would be taking on the role of Denis Dupree – an ex-rocker turned nightclub owner, who battles to stop plans by German developers to turn Sunset Strip into a sex, drugs and rock-n-roll free zone.

He is joined in his crusade by rock star Stacee Jaxx – a role Tom Cruise was rumoured to be attached to some time ago, and which was also confirmed by Shankman via Twitter. It’s a unusual choice for Cruise, although with last year’s Knight and Day receiving mixed reviews, perhaps this is a sign that his action-hero days are coming to an end.

Although Shankman has a background as an actor, dancer and choreographer, he has also directed several feature-length films, including The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember and Hairspray. He’s also been a judge and choreographer on the US TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, since Season 3, and directed the recent Rocky Horror Show episode of Glee.

Joining what is rapidly becoming a rather star-studded cast is Julianne Hough, who is no stranger to musical films having appeared in last year’s Burlesque. She also also happens to be the sister of that Derek chap who’s been following Cheryl Cole around for the last year or so. Who knew?

Hough will be taking on the role of Rock of Ages‘ Sherrie, an aspiring actress from Kansas. Mary J. Blige has also signed on to play Justice, the owner of a nearby ‘gentleman’s club’ where Sherrie finds herself working – which sounds all a bit Burlesque for our liking, but we’ll let it slide.

Also rumoured to be involved in this glam metal feast of a film include Russell Brand, Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway – we’ll keep you posted!
