Harry Potter director David Yates is set to take on an adaptation of Emma Forrest’s book Your Voice in My Head, and if rumours are true he wants to hire Emma Watson to star in it.

David Yates has been busy for the past few years, making the last four Harry Potter movies a roaring success, but it would seem he is still attached to the stars of the series.

Slated to be released some time in 2013, Your Voice In My Head is based on the memoir of journalist Emma Forrest. If Yates gets his way, Watson will play the central character Emma, who attempts suicide before she is saved by an optimistic and wise psychiatrist. Except he harbours troubles of his own.

The memoir has been adapted for the screen by Forrest herself.

If she signs, it will be Miss Watson’s third project since her ten year stint as Hermione Granger in the Potter films ended. Her first post Potter project was My Week With Marilyn, followed by this year’s flick The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

As of yet no one else is on board, although the studio behind the new film, Warner Brothers are hoping a big name star like Tom Hanks will be interested in the role of the psychiatrist.

In the meantime, David Yates has quite a few projects on the go. He’s still set to bring the Doctor Who film (whenever that ball starts rolling) onto the big screen, and is set to work on Sony Pictures A Reliable Wife after Your Voice In My Head is done.

You can buy the Harry Potter – The Complete 8-Film Collection DVD on Amazon now.

Remember how the Scottish city of Glasgow is being used as a location for lots of films recently? Glaswegians were raving about how much money this would bring to the city, now it has been revealed that this has indeed happened.

Last year we brought you the news that World War Z and Cloud Atlas were filming in Glasgow, which was expected to boost the profile and success of the city. Now, the Glasgow Film Office has released figures showing that films brought a kilt-raising total of £20.15 million to the city’s economy over the past year.

Brad Pitt’s zombie adventure was filming in Glasgow for 17 days in the summer of 2011, and it ended up bringing-in £3.33 million. Fantastic, but where did the rest come from? Well, it turns out that many other projects have recently also chosen Glasgow as one of their locations. Apparently, if you combine Cloud Atlas, starring Halle Berry and Tom Hanks, Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson and Young James Herriot, a TV production about the university life of vet-come-writer, the city of Glasgow gains a total of nearly £5.5 million. Add to this the £2.2 million that was raised by low impact productions with brief two-day shoots in Glasgow, and you’re well on your way to the £20.15 million grand total.

The film-hype is not yet over, with the Glasgow Film Festival coming up this February from the 16th to the 26th. Those who are interested in attending what will without a doubt be a fantastically quirky celebration of all things cinematic should check out our competition, where they can win tickets to a screening of their choice at the festival.

The first pictures and trailer for the screen adaptation of the New York Times best selling novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close are here. The film stars Thomas Horn in his acting debut as eleven-year-old Oskar Schell, who goes on a journey of self-discovery after his father is killed in the tragic events of September 11.

The story begins when Oskar finds a key that belonged to his father, played by Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, and decides to search for its meaning. He is accompanied on his quest by Max von Sydow (The Seventh Seal, Shutter Island) who plays a man renting a room from Oskar’s grandmother.

The journey takes him through New York’s five boroughs and brings him into contact with a medley of human kind, meeting a variety of people who are all survivors in their own particular ways. Oskar himself has a brilliant mind for his age and spends his time inventing things, poring over maps of France and wishing for peace.

His mother is played by Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock and is directed by Brit, Stephen Daldry (The Reader, The Hours). The screenplay is by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Insider) and produced by Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, True Grit) who have both won Academy awards. Phew – that’s a lot of talent bouncing around, so hopefully the film will reflect this.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close centres around a subject that is close to many people’s hearts. There is no doubt that it will be filled with emotions and morals, and while young Oscar’s journey is inevitably going to take him back to the same place he began, hopefully he will be able to find solace in the very human experience of love. It has now been confirmed that the release date for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is 17th February.

Tom Hanks, in a break from tradition, is due to star in a web-based sci-fi series.

While that sinks in, I’ll throw some knowledge at you. Electric City is a series set in the aforementioned metropolis, a place that seems like paradise, until a more sinister side hidden away underneath its glossy exterior is revealed.

Hanks has done writing work for the project, and stars in it as the lead voice actor. Erin McPherson, the Vice President and Head of Video Programming and Originals at Yahoo!, where the series will make its home, had the following to say:

“It is animated and it has a science fiction bent and in that way, like all great science fiction, it definitely plays on what is the best type of society to live in and themes around energy usage, conservation and sustainability.”

The plot sounds interesting, and McPherson makes it sound extremely relevant and topical (yes, I know, eco-themes again, but Tom Hanks! C’mon, that’s got to be worth something, right?), so we’ll be tuning in to check this out when it appears.

No word on a date yet, but it’ll be a total of 90 minutes long, and will be broadcast in… twenty minute segments. Clearly, someone’s maths skills are a little rusty. My prediction is that the pilot will be ten. More on this as we get the info.

Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Tom Hanks, have been voted the top three Hollywood stars who the nation would most happily invite over for Christmas, according to a poll carried out by the Sky Movies HD Christmas Channel.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star scooped the top spot with an impressive 7.6% of the votes. Depp was closely followed by George Clooney, who received 5.2%, and hot on his heels came Tom Hanks who reached third place with a respectable 4.9%.

Just behind Tom Hanks was British actress Emma Thompson – who scored 4.8% – followed by Friends actress, Jennifer Anniston and a very Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts.

The zombie fighting comedian, Simon Pegg, was ranked seventh, followed by heart-throb Hugh Grant who came in at eighth place. Cameron Diaz and Jim Carey, who starred together in the 90s family film The Mask, filled in the last two spots in the nation’s fantasy Christmas celebrity guest list.

The Christmas Channel asked 1,000 UK people to vote as part of Sky’s upcoming festive broadcasts, where film fanatics will be sharing their living rooms with the stars.

The Christmas Channel will be broadcasting some modern releases, such as Fred Claus and The Dark Knight, as well as Christmas favourites including Home Alone and The Grinch.

According to Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies, festive films have become as much a tradition as turkey and tinsel:

“The launch of our festive season of daily box sets was the perfect reason to find out who audiences really want to share their Christmas with this year. Depp was the clear winner for UK film fans. He is this year’s ultimate Christmas cracker!”

Why not take our poll and vote for your favourite Christmas guest!

The residents of the Scottish city of Glasgow are only just recovering from the flurry of action during the filming of World War Z. No time to relax though, as the news comes that yet another high-profile film is coming to town.

Tom Hanks and Halle Berry will be in the city later this month filming Cloud Atlas. Based on a novel by David Mitchell, the story won the Literary Fiction award at the British Book Awards and the Richard & Judy Book of the Year award.

Now it is being made into a film and apparently the Scottish city has the right attitude. Filmed mostly in Germany, the producers have said that they are coming to Glasgow due to the great example it set during the filming of World War Z. As well as its positive welcome to film-makers, the architecture of the city is being praised. If this continues, the film-making future looks bright for Glasgow.

Bryan Cranston may star in Ben Affleck’s political film, Argo, AND upcoming crime thriller, The Gangster Squad.

Bryan Cranston might be best known for his portrayal of the dad in the Fox comedy, Malcolm in the Middle, and his role in Breaking Bad, for which he has won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, but he has also been in demand within the film world of late.

Yesterday it was announced that Cranston was in negotiations to play a CIA agent in the Ben Affleck directed political movie, Argo. The film tells the (true) story of how CIA agents who posed as a film crew in Tehran, in order to secretly smuggle US diplomats out of the country. It is based an article titled How the CIA used a fake science fiction film to sneak six Americans out of revolutionary Iran, by Joshuah Bearman, which has been turned into a screenplay by Chris Terrio.

Affleck has already confirmed that he will appear in, as well as direct, the film, and that both John Goodman and Alan Arkin will also star. It will be the third feature length film which Affleck has directed, following 2007′s Gone Baby Gone, and last year’s crime drama, The Town. Now he is reportedly keen to cast Cranston in the role of Jack O’Donnell, a former bodyguard to President Eisenhower.

However, he’s not the only one who seems keen to have Cranston on board. The actor is reported to be currently in negotiations to join the cast of The Gangster Squad – the story of the LAPD’s struggle to keep Mafia crime out of LA during the 1940-50s. The film is being directed by the man behind the 2009 comedy, Zombieland, and already has the likes of Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Sean Penn confirmed to star.

Both Argo and The Gangster Squad are currently scheduled for a 2013 release. However, you can also catch Cranston in Tom Hanks’ recently released comedy, Larry Crowne, and he’s soon to appear in the 2012 remake of Total Recall, as well as musical film, Rock of Ages. In addition to this, he’ll also be starring alongside Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan in the soon-to-be-released film, Drive, as well as joining Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Marion Cotillard in upcoming thriller, Contagion.

That’s certainly quite an impressive schedule – we’ll keep you posted!

It was as if he had disappeared, but now all of a sudden Tom Hanks is everywhere again.

The latest news from the Hanks camp is that his production company is working on a 3D film based on the action figure toy Major Matt Mason. Hanks has written the script himself and may also take the lead. It is rumoured that Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis might be directing.

For those of you who are too young to have heard of Major Matt Mason, he was a Mattel action figure introduced in 1966. The major was an astronaut who lived and worked on the moon. Tom Hanks, who previously voiced a toy in Toy Story, has said on a number of occasions that Major Matt Mason was one of his favourite childhood toys. Awwww.

In the meantime you may remember we reported a couple of month ago that Hanks’ production company was working on bring the Broadway musical American Idiot to the big screen. Hanks is also currently promoting Larry Crowne, which he wrote, directed and starred in alongside Julia Roberts. See we told you he was busy at the moment.

Larry Crowne is released in UK cinemas on July 1.

American Idiot, the Broadway musical based on the Green Day album of the same name, is going to be adapted for the big screen.

Universal Studios is currently in negotiations to get the screen rights and has already hired the director of the stage production, Michael Mayer, to shoot it.

Tom Hanks will be producing the film, alongside the punk trio. You may remember that Hanks and his business partner, Gary Goetzman, were producers of the big screen version of Mamma Mia, which Universal was also behind. The adaptation of that musical, which features Abba songs was a huge hit, so Universal are clearly hoping for the same success again but with punk not pop.

It is thought that the Oscar-winning writer of Milk, Dustin Lance Black, will be writing the script for it. American Idiot is a concept album that Green Day released in 2004, which was adapted into a musical in 2009. It follows three friends trying to deal with modern American life. They all cope differently, one joins the army, one gets a girl pregnant and one becomes a heroin addict. The show won two Tony Awards on Broadway and generally received extremely positive reviews.

If you like Green Day and enjoy musicals (although most punk fans are unlikely to admit it) then you’ll be excited about this. It’s got good producers behind it and hopefully Black will come on board to write it. Do you like the sound of this project and who would you like to star?

Four years a go in fact when the pair starred in the Oscar nominated Charlie Wilson’s War.

But they have reunited once again, and this time for a romcom called Larry Crowne, written and directed by Hanks himself.

The film tells the story of Larry Crowne (Hanks), a middle aged man who looses his job as a team leader in a discount warehouse store. One of the reasons is due to his lack of education, so he enrols at a college.

Crowne finds himself becoming friends with the others in his class, who are a pretty random group of people but all have the same wish – to better themselves.

He ends up falling for his teacher Mercedes Tainot (the lovely Julia Roberts). She is unhappy in her job and her marriage, but maybe he can change all that for her? You get the gist.

Anyway the film has a pretty good cast, other than the Hollywood heavyweights, Bryan Cranston, Pam Grier, George Takei, Rob Riggle, Taraji P Henson, Cedric the Entertainer, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wilmer Valderrama, Rami Malik and Rita Wilson. Yes, it’s a random collection of actors but you have to admit they are all good-uns (apart from Wilmer Valderrama).

This is the first time that Hanks has been behind the camera in over ten years. He last directed That Thing You Do! in 1996, which was actually well received at the time but just didn’t set the box office alight.

How will Larry Crowne do in comparison, we wonder? Judging by the trailer it looks like a value for money feel-good romcom and when Julia Roberts flashes that smile, all is forgiven. Take a look at the trailer for yourself and let us know what you think.
