The 31st Golden Raspberry Awards

Yes, yes, the Oscars are big, but let’s not forget the 31st Golden Raspberry award winners have also been revealed…

So everyone might be talking about who won what at last night’s Oscars ceremony, but the awards season wouldn’t be complete without the Golden Raspberry Awards – giving the worst films of the year the recognition they deserve!

And let’s face it – of all the brilliant films we’ve seen this year, there’s been some absolutely awful ones too. Heavily nominated were rom-com sequel, Sex and the City 2, as well as M. Night Shyamalan‘s fantasy flop, The Last Airbender. There was, of course, the customary nominations for anyone involved with the latest in The Twilight Saga, with the bad luck seemingly rubbing off on Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer’s spoof version, Vampires Suck.

Yet whilst the fang-themed films seem to have escaped relatively unscathed, others were not so lucky. The Last Airbender was, perhaps, the star of the show, bagging Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor and, the recently introduced award for the Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3D.

The razzies also gave Sex and the City 2 the opportunity to gather enough awards to rival The King’s Speech (sort of). The film received an award for Worst Sequel, Worst Screen Ensemble and Worst Actress – which was, weirdly, awarded to all four of the leading actresses…

However, whilst the majority seem to agree that these films were more than deserving of their trophies, one which seems to be causing controversy is Jessica Alba’s award for Worst Supporting Actress, which she gained for her roles in The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete, Valentine’s Day. Not great films, we must admit, but probably not down to the performance of Miss Alba all the same. And surprising, seeing as she was up against Liza Minnelli’s cringe-worthy appearance in Sex and the City 2 – but then, I suppose the girls’ fateful venture to Abu Dhabi couldn’t bag them ALL the awards…

And that’s what you missed!
