Good news for eager fans awaiting The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the casting of the role of Quicksilver in the sequel has finally been confirmed. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing the speedy mutant. He will be joining new cast members James Spader and Elizabeth Olsen.
Unfamiliar with Aaron? Originally named Aaron Johnson before he married the director Sam Taylor-Johnson (formerly Taylor-Wood), he portrayed the title character in the superhero film Kick Ass and its sequel which hit cinemas in the summer this year.
Taylor-Johnson has made no secret of his possible involvement in the film, but nothing was for definite for a long time, because of scheduling conflicts. However, according to The Wrap, he has officially signed on the dotted line to join an already enormous group of superheroes.
Not that he’s a stranger to it, of course, and he won’t be the only new guy in town, because Elizabeth Olsen is set to play Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, who is Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver’s sister. James Spader has signed on to play the ultra bad Ultron.
Meanwhile, returning cast members include Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlet Johannson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
Joss Whedon’s inclusion of Quicksilver in Age of Ultron isn’t the first. The character is also being brought to life in X-Men: Days of Future Past by Evan Peters. The film will be out in 2014, so it will be interesting to see how different (or similar) their portrayals of the character are.
Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 1 May 2015. That’s way too long!
