Django Unchained, the latest film coming direct from the brain of Quentin Tarantino, will feature Ali G, Borat and Bruno star Sacha Baron Cohen.
It’s been a while since we last spoke about Django, but it’s totally worth the wait. Despite Will Smith no longer in the running for the title role – that honour has now gone to the prolific Jamie Foxx – Sacha Baron Cohen will lend his mastery of the silly and the serious to the film.
Django is a tale of a man’s journey through the Civil War-era Deep South, a journey that takes him ever closer to saving his wife, who has been sold and traded across the nation as a slave. A sad tale, but knowing Tarantino it’ll have dark humour injected into it at regular intervals, which seems like a perfect fit for Baron Cohen.
It’ll be interesting to see how the lead villain turns out, given he’s being played by none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, a surprise choice given that the majority of the time, Leo tends to play heroes. Fingers crossed it turns out similar to Robin William’s dark mastery of Seymour Parrish in One Hour Photo. More on this as it comes.
