You may remember that back in April, we reported that not only was a Carrie re-make in the works, but Julianne Moore had been cast as Carrie’s twisted mother. Filming is well under way, and co-star Judy Greer has praised Chloë Moretz’ portrayal of the title character.
Greer, who has been hired to portray Mrs Desjardin (a role we can only assume is supposed to be the modern equivalent of Miss Collins in the original), recently spoke to E! and had nothing but praise for the young actress.
“Chloë’s performance – and this is literal – has brought me to tears on set,” Greer detailed fondly. “She’s made me cry because I find her performance to be incredibly moving. I’m feeling a lot of compassion for her.”
Basically if anyone was concerned, that director Kimberley Pierce wouldn’t go down the emotional route like the original 1976 Carrie, you can breath a sigh of relief. Everything that made the original so powerful looks to be in place. Whether it’ll be on par with the original remains to be seen.
Greer’s extremely complimentary of her director though, who is running the shoot in Toronto. She claims the film is looking to be beautiful. “It’s really totally jarring and creepy but also in a strange way gorgeous.”
She’s intrigued us, but I think we’ll be the judge of that. After all Brian De Palma‘s classic, based on the Stephen King novel, is still held strong in our hearts.
And as for Kick-Ass star Moretz, well she’s proved her acting chops in the past, so we have no doubt she’ll deliver, even if the film doesn’t.
Carrie the re-make will hit our cinema screens on 12 April 2013.
