Plans are starting to come together for Zac Efron’s upcoming film, Die In A Gunfight.
Efron has been attached the project for sometime and is reportedly set to play “a fight-prone and death-obsessed young society man” – presumably in a further attempt to shake that squeaky-clean High School Musical stigma. His character runs into trouble when he decides to pursue a romance with the daughter of his father’s enemy.
The script, which comes from newly-graduated scribes Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer, made last year’s Hollywood Blacklist, and now Anthony Mandler has been confirmed to direct.
Madler has previously written and directed notable music videos for the likes of Rihanna, Usher, Jay-Z and John Mayer, to name but a few. He’s also attached to upcoming Dracula prequel, Vlad, and is currently working on a collaboration with Shantaram author, Gregory David Roberts, titled Allegra.
Meanwhile, Efron is also set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel, The Lucky One, opposite Taylor Schilling. Efron will play a US Marine who finds a photograph of a young woman half-buried in the sands of Iraq, which becomes his lucky charm. He then sets about tracking down the woman.
Between The Lucky One and Die In A Gunfight, will Efron finally manage to establish himself as a serious actor? We can’t wait to find out!
