Bombay Sapphire are back supporting innovative cinema for the second ‘Edible Cinema’ event, which will feature a screening of Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning Spirited Away alongside a number of tasty treats this weekend!
The upcoming Edible Cinema event promises audiences a unique cinematic experience this Saturday 25th August at 4pm and Sunday 26th August at 9pm at The Aubin Cinema in East London.
Chief mixologist and Bombay Sapphire brand ambassador Sam Carter will be partnering with the Soho House Group, as well as renowned ‘experience organiser’ Polly Betton and experimental food designer Andrew Stellitano to create an unforgettable screening of Studio Ghibli’s 2001 Japanese animated fantasy film, Spirited Away, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
The film itself follows the story of a sullen young girl who when moving house with her parents finds herself transported to a Japanese bathhouse set in an alternate reality. Her new world is filled with witches, monsters and humans who have been changed into animals. The Edible Cinema event aims to heighten the sensory aspects of the cinema experience by pairing a variety of culinary textures and aromas with the visual images of this film.
The signature cocktail for the evening is the Sapphire Rosato, which cinema goers will be served on arrival. Audience members will also be given a series of numbered packages containing Bombay Sapphire-created foods to eat during specific points during the film, which will correspond in some way with the events on screen.
The event will take place at The Aubin Cinema in Shoreditch – a theatre which claims to be the most comfortable new cinema in London – where audiences can relax on velvet sofas and chairs, propped up on Aubin & Wills cushions no less.
