After the success of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segel has reunited with the director Nicholas Stoller to make a brand spanking new comedy, The Five Year Engagement. And the trailer has landed.
The film revolves around Violet and Tom, played by unlikely coupling Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, who get engaged only for the wedding to be postponed. Why is it five years, you say? Was the man dragging his feet? Nope this time around it is put off by, wait for it – Violet’s budding career.
Yes, if you are a closet feminist, it is yet another slice of ‘woman is bad for having a career’. If you’re not that serious though and remember that this is, in fact, a comedy, then it is precisely what it is meant to be, a heart-warming story about the trials and tribulations of an engagement where everything will inevitably fall into place with a happy ending.
Don’t you feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about it? Throw in a bit of slapstick – a memorable moment in the trailer is when Emily Blunt is shot in the knee by a dart – and it looks like we may have another Segel hit.
You can’t deny there is a charm about his comedies, and paired with the talents of Miss Blunt, who had a scene stealing comedic turn in The Devil Wears Prada, we’re sure it will be as funny as the trailer demonstrates, and are confident they haven’t used up all the comedy in two minutes thirty seconds.
Other cast members include, Rhys Ifans and Animal Kingdom‘s Jacki Weaver as Blunt’s mother.
Do Jason and Emily convince you they are a couple? Let us know.
The Five Year Engagement will arrive in the UK, 27th April 2012.
