Fox ‘Keepin’ the Summer Alive’ with Beach Boys movie

This is one for all of those who love a film about a band, but think more Mamma Mia than Control.

Fox 2000 have bought the rights to a movie based on the legendary sixties group The Beach Boys.

It has been reported that the movie will be co-produced by one of the bands touring drummers, John Stamos. Other rumours suggest that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who both worked on the most recent Hairspray movie, will also be producing.

The script will be written by Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant. It is thought that the film will feature the band’s songs but will not be about them, much like Mamma Mia.

The Beach Boys have a rather speckled history, including Brian Wilson’s mental breakdown and the deaths of Carl and Dennis at a young age, but none of this is set to be included.

But what the plot will be and who will star are both yet unknown. We’ll keep you posted.
