It’s been in development for a long time, but it finally looks as though Ghostbusters 3 has the greenlight. Apparently shooting should get started in 2013 … without Bill Murray.
Sorry kids, after years of ooing and ahhing about the prospect of starring in the long awaited Ghostbusters 3, it would seem it will fall into the hands of a new generation.
Confused? So are we, because frankly, this project’s had more hiccups than even the original characters in Ghostbusters had to deal with.
First off, Dan Aykroyd said they had an excellent script drafted. Then we discovered that Sigourney Weaver hadn’t seen this new script, although naturally the media made her aware of its existence.
Then to add insult to serious injury, it was revealed that Bill Murray was severing all ties with the project as he was unhappy with this “excellent” script. So much so he demanded that, were he to be involved, they would have to re-write it.
“They just don’t have a really good script,” he said.
Of course Aykroyd hired a different writer, because if they were going to do this, “it’s got to be perfect.” And who better to re-write it than Men In Black 3‘s Etan Cohen? Right?
Alas it wasn’t to be, and despite their best efforts, Mr Murray is out. Aykroyd doesn’t seem too upset though. On the contrary he’s optimistic of “passing the torch onto a [new] generation.”
“My preference would be to have him involved, but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”
With the script being fixed up, and the studio behind them, Aykroyd is confident the ball is rolling for 2013.
Yeah, we’re not holding our breath either. What do you think will get in the way this time? Will the writer be possessed by an evil ghost? How about a giant marshmallow man invading the set? We’ll keep you posted.
