Hansel and Gretel are back, and this time they’re badass. The first picture has been released of the remake that sees the brother and sister duo from the classic Grimm fairytale, grown up and looking for revenge.
Remember the little children who were taken prisoner by the evil witch in the house made of sweets? Everyone wanted to eat that house, but the witch inside seemed to have a craving of her own. Children. Well, thankfully Hansel and Gretel managed to escape by shoving the witch into the oven, but what became of them after that?
According to this new adaptation, produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and directed by Tommy Wirkola, they now hunt witches and other baddies who put children in danger. Good to see they’ve got over their childhood ordeal then. Their search for vengeance is set 15 years after the fairytale events and will be packed with action, some snippets of emotion and a bit of dark humour thrown in for good measure.
The famous duo will be played by Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, 28 Weeks Later) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), who have now become bounty hunters, travelling all over the world to hunt-down witches. Also in the film will be Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare and Zoe Bell. We should expect more than one witch, some emotional baggage and a lot of action. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be released in the UK on 2 March, 2012.
We’ll keep you posted.
