Star of TV drama series, Heroes, Hayden Panettiere is set to play convicted murderer Amanda Knox in upcoming TV film, The Amanda Knox Story.
There was something of a media frenzy when, back in 2007, it because awkwardly obvious that Knox, who had been arrested for the murder of her flatmate, Meredith Kercher, was a rather attractive young lady – promoting a whole host of ‘Foxy Knoxy’ style headlines.
The case evolved into a drug-fuelled tale with sex and murder at it’s heart, which screamed ‘Hollywood’ long before CSI New York and Law and Order writer, Wendy Battles, began writing the film script. Now that Panettiere has been cast as Knox herself, we can be sure that this will be a relatively glamorous take on the events which resulted in Knox being jailed for 26 years.
Although there have been several television documentaries depicting the shocking story of the British student’s murder during a foreign exchange programme, The Amanda Knox Story will be the first dramatisation of these events.
A spokesman for the Knox family has said that they had no knowledge of the film, while Kercher’s mother has reportedly said, ‘I don’t see how they can make a film called The Amanda Knox Story when the story is really all about my daughter”.
The Amanda Knox Story will be aired on US TV channel, Lifetime, and is due to be released next year.
