The BAFTAs weren’t the only awards held this weekend, as the IFTAs (the Irish Film & Television Awards) brought many stars to the Convention Centre in Dublin on Saturday.

This awards ceremony is a huge highlight in the Irish cultural and entertainment calendar. Its purpose? To celebrate the year’s finest acting performances on the big and small screen, as well as those who have worked behind the camera. Who decides the winners? More than 1,000 members of the Irish Film & Television Academy, as well as a jury panel of international experts.

Who won? The biggest winner was Irish crime drama Love/Hate, picking up seven awards including David Cafferty for Director Television Drama and Best Drama In Association With Bai. In the film category, as expected Michael Fassbender received due recognition for his role in Shame, winning the Best Actor – Film. Everyone’s favourite guy-next-door, Chris O’Dowd picked up the award for Best Supporting Actor for his loveable performance in 2011 comedy Bridesmaids and The Guard won Best Film. Many smaller programmes won awards as well, including ICA Bootcamp with Best Reality Programme.

Fionulla Flanagan won the Supporting Actress award for The Guard – and she looks rather pleased (pictured right). Other categories included Documentary Series, which saw Stephen Rooke’s Waterways pick up the prize. Waterways was a popular series in the 1990s that saw poet, naturalist and broadcaster Dick Warner journey through the canals of Ireland by barge. It has been off screens for 16 years, so Rooke bringing it back was a highly-anticipated event in Ireland. The International Category gave Ryan Gosling a nod for his performance in Drive and here is a full list of the lucky winners:
