Jesse Eisenberg was a code-magician in The Social Network, but now he’s involved with a film that involves actual magicians in Now You See Me.
To give you a rough idea of the approach to magicians taken by the film (directed by Louis Leterrier of Clash of the Titans and The Incredible Hulk fame), think thrills and spills. The FBI go up against a team of illusionists who have chosen to use their talents to make money in bank vaults disappear in a series of elaborate heists. Personally, I feel this raises an important point about magicians – if they can make people switch places, and have coins appear at will, what’s to stop them making a lot of coin disappear?
Eisenberg’s got it made. Even before The Social Network he was performing admirably with roles in Adventureland and Zombieland (which aren’t related oddly enough, although you could link being adventurous to fighting off zombies), and now he’s got a wide range of projects to choose from. Rumour has it that Jake Gyllenhaal (Zodiac, Donnie Darko) is also interested in getting involved, and I think a cast of weird and quirky magicians would make this an even better film.
There’s not a bucket load of information on the film at present, but the concept is sound and I look forward to hearing more. We’ll keep you posted.
