It has been revealed that both Jessica Chastain and Bryan Cranston have joined the cast of the upcoming computer-animated comedy, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.
Although the third instalment of the Madagascar series of films will see many of its regular voice-actors reprise their roles, the names behind the voices of new characters Vitali, a Tiger, and Gia, a Jaguar, have not previously been revealed until now. However, it now seems that these roles will be filled by two rising stars, Chastain and Cranston.
Madagascar 3 sees Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippopotamus attempt to make the journey home to New York, following their adventures in 2008’s more cleverly-named offering, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. When the gang become stranded in Monte Carlo, they join up with a circus in the hope of being able to travel inconspicuously across Europe.
Chastain’s film career seems to have gone from strength to strength since making the transition from the small screen, giving critically acclaimed performances in The Tree of Life and The Help. She’ll also star in Ralph Fiennes’ soon-to-be-released Coriolanus. Cranston has also been making regular appearances within the film world of late, appearing in Drive, Larry Crowne and Contagion just last year. He also has experience of voice acting, having played the character of James Gordon in the animated superhero film, Batman: Year One, as well as dubbing a number of Japanese anime films and TV shows under the name of Lee Stone.
This film will also see Ben Stiller return as Alex, Chris Rock as Marty, David Schwimmer as Melman, Jada Pinkett Smith as Gloria and Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien XIII. They’ll be joined for the first time by Father of the Bride‘s Martin Short, who will voice sea lion Stefano, and Frances McDormand as Captain Chantel DuBois, an animal control expert.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted isn’t due for release in the UK until 16th October 2012, but you can check out the trailer below.
