No joker in Nolan’s final Batman

After mounting speculation, Batman director Christoher Nolan, has confirmed that there will not be a joker in the third instalment of the films.

We can also officially now tell you that this will be Christian Bale’s last time as the caped crusader, because The Dark Knight Rises will be the last in the Batman series.

Director Nolan, who also brought us Inception, said :”I’m glad to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio,”

He added: “I love working within the realm and rules of our Batman world, it’s kind of nice to have someplace to go that I’m super-excited about.”

Rumours have been quashed that Nolan will be using cut scenes of Heath Ledger‘s joker from The Dark Night for the next film. It has been reported that this is because he wants to pay respect to the actor and his legacy. But, if there’s no joker, what villain will there be? Any ideas?

Heath Ledger played the joker in The Dark Knight which was released in 2008, three years after the prequel, Batman Begins. Ledger passed away in 2008 before the film was released. Christian Bale has played Batman in all the films.

The Dark Knight Rises is expected to reach cinemas in the summer of 2012.
