Actress turned director (and screenwriter), Julie Delpy, will be taking the helm of an upcoming Joe Strummer biopic, titled The Right Profile.
Whilst Delpy might not have been the most obvious choice to direct The Clash frontman’s biopic, it certainly looks to be an interesting film. The Right Profile will follow the story of Strummer’s eventful life, including his planned disappearance from the public eye in 1982. The film takes it title from a Clash song, which features on what is perhaps their best-known album, London Calling, first released in 1979.
It is also thought to be more than likely that Delpy will also take this opportunity to appear in the film herself. During her time as a director, she has also acted in all but one of her films.
Delpy has most recently been working on her upcoming feature, 2 Days In New York – a sequel to the 2007 romantic drama, 2 Days in Paris, which she wrote, produced, directed and starred in. Rumour has it that Delpy is also keen to reunite with Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke, who she previously worked with on Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, with the hope of filming a third instalment in the series.
While The Right Profile will no doubt be highly anticipated, it is likely to be some time before the film reaches our screens, and there’s no word as of yet on who will play Strummer himself.
We’ll keep you posted!
