Doctor Who assistant Karen Gillan has landed her first film role in David Baddiel’s Romeo and Brittney.
Romeo and Brittney is the latest script to be penned by Baddiel since last year’s comedy, The Infidel, which starred Omid Djalili and Matt Lucas. He will also be directing this literary adaptation (ooh, we love a good literary adaptation!), which, unsurprisingly, takes it’s inspiration from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Gillan will make good use of the time-travelling skills she picked up playing Doctor Who‘s Amy Pond, as Romeo and Brittney will see her transported back to 13th century Verona, where she finds herself involved in the plot of the Bard’s infamous ‘star-cross’d lovers’.
A somewhat unconventional Romeo will reportedly be played by Misfits‘ Robert Sheehan, who also appeared alongside Rupert Grint in Cherrybomb. Gillian Anderson, who will also feature is the upcoming film, Johnny English Reborn, is on board to play Gillan’s mother.
The project reportedly has a budget of £4.3 ($7) million and will be produced by another of The Infidel‘s team, Arvind Ethan David. We’ll keep you posted!
