It’s not quite the spectacular revelation that we have been looking forward to, but nonetheless the new poster for Kick-Ass 2 offers up some exciting news. The sequel to the superhero-film-with-a-difference will be released upon the world in 2013 – a confirmation that makes up for everything else that the new poster appears to be lacking.
Let’s focus on what we do know – Aaron Johnson will be reprising his role as Dave Lizewski, the ordinary teenager/comic-book nerd whose desire to become a superhero escalates rather quickly, bringing him into the middle of a much bigger fight. Also returning is Chloë Moretz, who will no doubt be throwing numerous high-kicks and punches like she did last time in her role as Hit-Girl. Nicolas Cage and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are also reprising their roles as Big Daddy and Chris/Red Mist respectively.
Scrubs star Donald Faison is reportedly close to signing on as physics professor Dr. Gravity, who is a superhero in his spare time. Sounds easy enough, right? Apparently his weapon of choice is the imaginatively titled “gravity pole”- which is sort of like a baseball bat.
Matthew Vaughn, who lent his creative talents to the screenplay of the first film, will return to produce and Jeff Wadlow, known for writing/directing the 2005 horror Cry Wolf as well as co-writing Prey (2007), will be in charge of the action as director. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for an official release date and until then, perhaps we should all watch Kick-Ass again to remind ourselves just how uniquely entertaining a film it actually is.
