Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo are tentatively being linked to roles in 1000 A.E., Will Smith’s next film after Men in Black III. This will be a sci-fi, set far in the future when Earth has become inhospitable.
Man no longer lives on the desolate planet, however in true Will Smith-style the star of the film crash lands on the planet with his son, played by his real life son Jaden. This will not be the first time that the father-son acting team has starred in a film together, both of them having been in The Pursuit of Happyness. This film was very well received, winning many awards including the Capri Movie of the Year and the Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture, as well as being nominated for many more. For this film, Jaden Smith also won the award for Breakthrough Performance at the MTV Movie Awards and it will be nice to see how mini-Smith takes on this new role.
If all goes well, Zoe Kravitz (X-Men First Class, It’s Kind of a Funny Story) will play Will Smith’s other child in 1000 A.E. and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) will play his wife. Will Smith will play a heroic spaceman who gets injured in the crash. Jaden will play his son who has always been considered a bit of a failure, but who must then take charge and help his father.
It sounds as though this will be a coming-of-age film, perhaps with more character development taking place in Jaden’s character than in his famous father’s. It will be nice to see them acting together again and Jaden must be thinking that he has the coolest dad ever. 1000 A.E. will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan, with screenplay written by Stephen Gaghan and Gary Whitta. It is set for release on 7 June, 2013 in the U.S. and we’ll keep you updated with more news as we hear it.
