The first poster image of Lady Gaga’s film début in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills has been released by the director via Twitter.
It was, perhaps, only a matter of time before Stefani Germanotta, aka, Lady Gaga, made her first foray into the world of film. Now, her fans (or should we say, Little Monsters…) have been treated to the first image of the Born This Way singer in character as La Chameleón in the upcoming action exploitation film, Machete Kills.
The film is written and directed by Sin City‘s Robert Rodriguez, and is the second in the Machete trilogy. Although relatively little is known about the role in which Ms Gaga herself is set to star, the film will continue following the story of Machete, played by Danny Trejo, as he is recruited by the US president to take down the leader of a cartel in Mexico.
Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez will also be reprising their roles as Machete‘s Sartana Rivera and Luz respectively. They will be joined by a whole host of newcomers, who include two of Hollywood’s craziest: Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen – one can only imagine the madness on the set. Other series newcomers include Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr., Zoe Saldana and Amber Heard.
Whilst this is Gaga’s first acting role, it is not her first big screen appearance, as she has previously had cameo’s as herself in both The Muppets and Katy Perry: Part of Me. However, we have seen a glimpse of what might be behind her Poker Face in terms of her acting ability, since she appeared in the Saturday Night Live ‘3-Way (The Golden Rule)‘ sketch along with Justin Timberlake.
Of course, there’s still talk of Gaga taking on the role of Amy Winehouse in an upcoming biopic of the singer – although more recent rumours have stated that her father, Mitch Winehouse, wants £10million for the privilege. Perhaps her turn in Machete Kills could convince him that she’ll be able to pull off the role?
The promo shot of Gaga shows her looking suitably glamorous for someone named La Chameleón, wearing stockings and a wolf stole, whilst brandishing a smoking gun. The image was tweeted by Rodriguez, who also stated: “I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy smokes. Blown away!”
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that her latest venture will put a stop to critics pointing out the similarities between Gaga and the original queen of pop, Madonna – her latest look as La Chameleón is already compared to that of Madonna in films such as Dick Tracy.
Whether or not her acting proves to be up to scratch, it is more than likely that Gaga’s army of Little Monsters alone could have a significant impact on this film’s takings. Machete Kills is yet to be given a release date, but we’ll keep you posted!
