Production on Diana, the biopic about Princess Diana has commenced, and we’ve been afforded a glimpse of Noami Watts as the iconic princess. Our initial opinion is that she’s looking good.
The film was originally to be titled Caught In Flight, but was recently changed to Diana. It will focus on the final two years of her life, rather than her entire adventure in the spotlight, namely her evolution into an international campaigner and humanitarian. Or at least that’s what the press release claims.
Naomi certainly looks the part, as they’ve kitted her out in one of Diana’s classic ensembles, earrings, choker necklace, hair and all. That said we shall remain sceptical about her performance until we see the finished product.
Speaking about her casting, Naomi has been humble about her casting in the role:
“I’m excited and honoured to be playing the role of a truly remarkable woman, who had such a positive and profound impact in so many ways.”
Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, the production is already garnering Oscar speculation, despite not even having a release date. Then again actors and actresses who have played members of the British monarchy in the past, are notorious for winning, so it’s no wonder really.
Past wins have included Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, and Colin Firth as her father King George IV in The King’s Speech.
Diana should be released some time in 2013. In the mean time what are your opinions on Naomi as Diana? Good? Bad? Let us know.
